Received the AD email about purchase of Iowa away game tickets. Never been.

Advice? Is it a **** show for an ISU fan to attend? I guess it depends on whether we win.

If we decide not to go, let me know if anyone wants me to buy Captain level tickets (4 max) for them.

I went with my wife and another couple, who are Iowa fans, the year Netten hit the game winner after Kirk called a timeout to give him another chance. I had a good time and wasnt harassed any more than good-natured jokes. To hear that stadium so quiet and all the grumbling after he made it was worth it. It was so satisfying.

I went my senior year and I honestly didn't have any issues wearing cardinal at a tailgate or at the game. Yea there was some "F*** State" and other ribbing and vulgar speech but that doesn't bother me. Maybe it helped we had beat them 3/4 years so there wasn't much you could say to us.

Iowa City is a fun town and their bar scene was awesome with the ped mall and smoked ours, or did circa 2014/15.
Same experience. There's no doubt their bar scene kicks our ass due in most part to female suburban Chicago students.

If you're not an ass, you won't be treated poorly outside a few idiots yelling "clowns" or whatever makes them feel superior to a stranger.

I'm planning on going for the first time this year - my wife won an auction (from a hawk fan) for 5 tickets. It'll be my wife and I, her brother and both of our dads. All ISU fans to various degrees.

I'll be honest, after reading this thread (and others), I'll plan on wearing an outer layer that is at least black ISU gear if not neutral. Once in our seats, we should safely be able to switch to our red ISU stuff right? It's a little crazy to say, but from a safety perspective, I'll feel less safe going to that game than just about anywhere I've ever been.

Normally I wouldn't go, but since I've never been before and we were able to get cheap tickets... I already don't plan on never going back. I've been to KU, KState, and WVU and nothing but good experiences (minus a single dude at WVU).
I have been there at least 20 times. I always wear my cyclone gear loud and proud and other than moronic comments walking to and from the stadium, I have had no issues. They are most obnoxious after they win when you are leaving the stadium. I have witnessed a-holes in action but never went for the bait. I have also seen Iowa fans step up and defend ISU fans who were being mistreated. The stadium is a dump although it has been improving with their recent renovations. The tailgating is lame, primarily in people's yards so unless you have contacts there I would stick with @danwbarrett recommendation of the hancher parking lot. I have a Dr. friend that I hang with although even he seems to be pushed further and further from the stadium as the years have gone by. It used to be lonely wearing Cyclone gear but the last 10 years or so it is getting much closer to a maybe 2-1 Iowa vs ISU particularly in the stands at the game. As others have said many of the tailgaters don't even have tickets.

Hoping this is the yr?
I was there when we won back in 2014. Sorry but we walked back to our car without yelling obscenities. Did did a few high fives to fellow cyclone fans though. Just trying to be respectful in the black and gold cesspool over there.
