Of course the high school program convinced his ex-girlfriend to drop prior charges for the sake of his NBA future. Gross.
I'm sure there were all kinds of boosters who were offering her all kinds of money to make it go away. Honestly I really couldn't blame her if she go close to life changing money for her pain and suffering.

Sounds like a hell of a civil suit against that booster next time this **** up does it again. And you know he will.

I hear you, but I have to push back a bit a little bit on the comparison.

1) Thomas and Grill both had sufficient length and build out of HS to not be complete liabilities in that department even in the worst scenarios.

2) Caleb Grill was a multi-sport star at Maize, KS. In particular he was a duel threat QB and was a state champion high jumper at 6'10.

3) Thomas was admittedly a less explosive athlete, and he did have a learning curve coming from a program that played zone. However, he had a ready-made physique right out of Onalaska day one and his workout routine, nutrition, and preparation was legendary among his teammates and coaches. Maybe not the best vertical, which is hard to train, but he's right up there with the best in program history in taking his body which helps immensely with just about everything else on the defensive end.

Then you look at Iowa, none of their main rotation guys with a similar role check those positive boxes, and I would argue with bigger respective question marks athletically coming into college ball.

Grill was also the MVP of the Kansas Shrine game as the QB for the winning team. Thomas was a defensive liability as a freshman and sophomore. He learned to play defense later.

No matter how much, if any, $$ Omaha made with his commitment to ISU, he's going to be fine. He will be more than fine. He is going to make a lot of money in the NBA, hopefully.

He has a chance to be a very special player, to ISU and to the NBA. He also has a chance to really win our hearts (in this NIL era). I hope he stays humble. The God-given talent is there.

Well stated Cylones! I love you! I love you all!!!

Thanks Omaha!

I really like Omaha not only as a player, but as a young man too! He’s absolutely going to win our hearts over…

Correct. I would go so far as to say Grill not only holds his own athletically, but is on the 'plus athlete' side of the spectrum for a P5 guard. IMO, Grill is naturally more of a two-way guard that has the ability to be a plus shooter than he is a 3 point specialist who weakens your defense but makes up for it with elite shooting.

I agree, Thomas was always naturally more the other way around. They are not really the same type of SG, and they more dissimilar than most people realize.

However, both were clearly better prospects with fewer red flags on paper with respect to P5 defensive ability than your typical Iowa guards Fran has brought in who are often auto-mismatches due to lack of size, athleticism, or both. IMO, Iowa's defensive ineptitude is baked into the cake from signing day.

Tyrese went to Texas, and it’s a question how much further he’ll develop there. He chose the short term payoff over the long term investment.

That may backfire on him. Not least, since the Longhorns have a mega recruit freshman PG.

Wonder if he might transfer back next year, having his money in his pocket.
Nah, we good. Thanks for your service while here.

I don’t know what grill runs the 40 in but he could have been a heck of a wide reciever with his height and athletic ability

Which Iowa players participated in the McDonald’s AA game? 7 or 8 seems like a lot. I’m thinking maybe a couple.
According to the Google machine:

Iowa has signed eight McDonald's All-Americans out of high school, but the most-recent was Chris Kingsbury in 1993. The others were Michael Payne (1981), Brad Lohaus (1982), Al Lorenzen (1984), Ed Horton and Roy Marble (1985), Ray Thompson (1988), and Kenyon Murray (1992).
