Hy-Vee's weirdest business decision yet?

Honestly don't know - would that be a good thing? Only ever lived in Iowa and despite a lot of stupid business decisions, I still like Hy-Vee over Fareway. My hope is it would possibly make Hy-Vee focus more on grocery rather than all the fluff and other ventures, but don't know enough about Kroeger to know if that would be the case.

I frequent Kroger, and that’s it’s own thing. Kroger owns/buys up chains across the country. They don’t usually turn them in to “Kroger’s” after they purchase them. There would definitely be changes because Kroger is PTC, but you won’t see much change other than cutting the ******** like celebrity endorsements/placements and that stuff. Also, Kroger tries all the same things that people think HyVee is the only one doing it in the grocery industry. You can get shoes, clothes, toys, games, etc at certain Kroger stores as well.

They recently tested a rapid scan machine at the one I go to, it’s awesome. You put your **** on a high speed belt, the scanner is above the belt and does it all automatically. No cashier, just a bagger. It flies.

formula?

Who needs formula - “I killed a giant when I was 10. Then I climbed right into bed with his wife. When she woke up, you know what she did? Suckled me at her teat for three months. Thought I was her baby. That’s how I got so strong: giant’s milk.”

I’ve seen these in Texas. They’ll be everywhere soon. They are unbelievably fast and easy.

My grocery store (a Metro Market) is owned by Roundy's/Kroger. It's fairly comparable to most Hy-Vee locations, but it doesn't have anything like a Market Grille (which is good, IMO), just a very small dining area for people who grab lunch at the hot food bar. And there's not really much of the fluff. There's one or two half-aisles that carry seasonal items (decorations, sparklers for July 4th, etc.), but otherwise it's just stuff you would expect to find in a supermarket. I've been to one or two other Metro Market locations in Wisconsin, including one in Madison, and they were pretty much identical.

This. We went to Dillion's when we lived in Wichita. Bought an outdoor patio set there once.

Years ago (though it could still be there), the Oakland Rd HyVee had a blue two person paddle boat for $400. I laughed every time I saw it. It was above the frozen food coolers. I could only imagine someone grabbing an employee and saying, "Get that down, I want it."

Harris Teeter is the best grocery store. Hy-Vee is actually pretty good. Right there with Publix IMO. I haven't been on the west Coast to gauge their grocery store feel.

Hy-Vee Chinese food has gone massively downhill. We all used to love their eggrolls but they changed something and I can't eat them anymore. Yuck.
Because they come in premade and frozen. Just like their take and bake pizzas. Reducing the quality to save a buck.

I have lived across the US... I will rank grocery stores

HEB > pre 2013 HYVEE >Kroger> schnucks > mark walberg hyvee > Mejier > >supersaver> United foods > any IGAs

My list:

King Soopers>HyVee>Giant Eagle Market District>Albertsons>Kroger Marketplace>Safeway>Meijer>Price Chopper

Didn’t include Fareway because it’s a different thing. Didn’t include Trader Joe’s (that’s my favorite “grocery store”. Didn’t include WM or Target because it’s a different thing. I miss 1980’s Dahl’s.

Woodman's is awesome they have everything and prices are way below Hy-Vee. Their fresh meat department is weak but everything else is great. When I visit a Hy-Vee I am floored by how expensive everything is. I have emailed Woodmans telling them there is a vast market opportunity to their west. I think they would really take most of the market share. Great liquor department too!
