Exactly.

If we beat Iowa, it's because we committed to the passing game.
I am well aware of that but having an additional explosive aggressive back who runs extremely hard is very helpful especially against their strong front 7 and defensive scheme.

They literally had the same number of carries in the first half and were both in on the first drive of the second half when Norton got hurt... not that hard to figure out.

3? Clearly the goal in the first half was to get the passing game going.

At this point selfishly I guess, but I would sure like some information on his hamstring injury and his ability to help beat the hawks this Saturday.

That’s funny. They aren’t going to say anything other than maybe “day to day”.

Remsburg and Norton might both be “day to day” the rest of the year, who knows? CMC doesn’t usually let anyone know what’s really going on…. which is fine.

I said it in the other thread... "day to day" for the CMC staff means "RIP"

I know CMC has always kept quiet on injuries. But seems like once in awhile someone may have heard something from, you know, reliable sources.

I knew this was silly but then I rewatched some of the game and realized just how silly it was. Brock carried the ball 4 times for 39 yards to start the second half and had a fifth run negated by a penalty. He was taking a blow when Norton came in and got hurt on his first carry of the second half.

Sorry, that doesn't scream splitting starter's snaps at all.

Norton appears to be a great back in the making, but let's not get ahead of ourselves.

I assume Brock is pretty motivated. I bit of a slap in his face to those who are concerned we won't have the horses for a ground game.

Yeah, and Brock turned it on in the second half. I'd imagine he is ready to go and carry the load.......and ok with Silas getting spots for rest/different look.

You guys made me do it... I went through the play-by-play and recorded each rush (grey dots), along with whether or not it occurred before or after Norton's injury. I calculated Yards Per Carry (blue dots), as well as the 95% confidence interval for the average (blue hashes).

Norton Debate.jpg

Up to the point Norton was injured, Norton and Brock were giving roughly the same expected yards per rush. But because of the limited number of carries, it's ridiculous to think that Norton was easily the better rusher on the day. Prior to the injury, Brock had the longest run of the day. After the injury, Brock continued to perform at a good clip. You can argue all you want about qualitative stuff - running style, how much they sweat, etc - but qualitatively you can't say that Norton was better than Brock with any certainty. They both played well, but only Brock had enough carries to even start talking about who is better from a production standpoint. Anything said about Norton is still conjecture.

I remember a time before either Brock or Hall had even taken a snap yet. A lot of people were more excited for Brock because he ran more like Montgomery based on HS highlights.

Norton had 3 carries including the one he got injured. Brock had 7 carries to that point. The play-by-play data is on Cyclones.com.
That’s where I got it from. Both had equal carries in the 1H (Norton had more yards) then Brock started the first drive of the second half and carried the ball well. Norton was then put in and gained solid yardage before getting hurt.
Norton had a higher EPA per touch and was on track to have about the same or maybe a few less carries in the game.

My takeaway from your confidence intervals is that every single one of our rushers is equally great.

Thank you for putting science behind this.

I think this is more of a Ronnie Brown and Cadillac Williams being on the same team. Or LenDale White and Reggie Bush. Currently in the NFL, Chubb and Kareem both being on the Browns even though Hunt could start for a lot of other teams. And I’m sure there are several other examples.
