I assume the location of CyTown will eliminate the corporate tents on game day in that area but that they will find a way to capture that revenue by relocating elsewhere. I just hope they do not take away anymore parking spaces wherever they are placed.

Does it say a timeline for Phase 2 and the hotel? Those are the things I didn't see.
I haven’t been in Busch stadium since BP Village opened. The AC in BP beats sitting behind 3rd base on a hot sunny day in Busch.

You can also dovetail it with the Olympic sporting events. Have an event here and have it set to finish in time for the softball game, wrestling meets, or so.
Yeah. Thing is, ISU people want to go to Ames anyway. You just gotta give them a good reason.

If I were Busch Light, I’d lean into it and build a bar there. Put tappers outside and you could print money.

Not exactly sure.

Then if they have some boutique shopping places and a few kids activities, you have a little for everyone. Throw in $5 tickets to go to the olympic events and families have a day event. I don't think people understand how unfun it is to bring your kids to non football games. We enter Ames on 69, and there are limited places to grab something quick and easy for the kids on that route. It's nice when you can park your car, and grab food, entertain the kids, wife can do a little shopping, dad grabs a beer before you go to an game/event.

Football you have tailgating and kids are just running around playing with other kids since there is bound to be several when you have 50k people in one area. Other sports not so much.

Is it a debt liability on Stephens or deferred maintenance like most campus buildings?
Sorry. Loosely worded. 'debt' from the standpoint of negative cash flow. Just like so many 'landmark' architectural buildings, maintenance costs were overlooked. So, while the majority of campus buildings are plain by design, they're also less expensive to maintain.

Tent row can be placed in the green space between the buildings. There looks to be enough space there for them. Plenty of tailgaters will make their way over during the games for AC or heat.

Lots of students will pass through during the week with the commuter lots and will stop to shop or eat.

Definitely see Cy's Locker Room moving into this area as well. With all the other sports happening at Hilton this provides a place for people to gather/eat/drink before/after those events. How many home wrestling meets, men's/women's basketball games, volleyball matches and gymnastics events happen at Hilton every year? Perhaps this also can bring back some more concerts to Ames and Hilton during the Summer.

No, but I have to think it would follow shortly after Phase 1, and once infrastructure is in place I can't imagine the buildings in phase 2 taking more than 18 months. I'm not a developer though, so I have no expertise to back this up.

Aren't the Iowa Games held every Summer in Ames too? So many year around events happening so often that a few year round restaurants/bars could stay open. Hopefully there's Event Day restaurants and bars as well. Quick order spaces and sit down. ISU Catering could help manage staffing for the Event Day stuff.

I agree with the previous poster too, but also remember that the AD operates the other Iowa State Center facilities now. So if there are projects that would need to happen at C.Y. Stephens or Schemen regardless of any new revenue stream, the costs would have to come from new donations or from the AD budget. In that sense, new revenue going towards the Iowa State Center arts facilities still benefits the athletic department. Also, in my mind the Iowa State Center includes both Hilton and Jack Trice, but not sure if that's what was meant.
Yes - if all this does is cover CY/Scheman/Fisher operating expenses (including timely maintenance) then it's a win from the AD budget standpoint.

Maybe they can fix the marquee sign north of Scheman along Lincoln Way that's had dead pixels/bulbs forever. (Haven't been past it for a while, but it was looking bad 10 years ago.)

I'm thinking these are "wants" at this point but not set in stone. Probably still recruiting or negotiating with a hotel developer.

I really hope the hotel makes the cut. For those of us living out of state with little ones, having a hotel within walking distance would greatly increase the number of games we'd attend as a family (and therefore $$$ spent in Ames).

I anticipate it will happen as it seems like such a no brainer.

Any ideas on why it seems to be on the slower developing side? I would think it would be full almost all of the time. Football weekends I would think could be super expensive.

The Alumni Center likely has a wedding every weekend for the entire summer. Sometimes multiple wedding receptions.

I don’t get worked up over these things. If somebody had asked my OPINION on if this would be a big money maker (different than viable), I probably would have said no. But that’s without data or expertise in feasibility studies.

Because these experts get paid just for feasibility studies, I would go with their expert analysis.

Only time will tell, so no sense in throwing unscientific conjecture around on this.

Didn't you create CF for this exact reason?

I think that and the expansion of Scheman are kind of lynch pins to the whole thing. You absolutely need to have more conferences if this thing is going to work. Scheman is fine for meetings (although it could use some renovation)...it has plenty of meeting rooms and an auditorium. What it does not have is flat space for exhibitor booths. Once you have that, you can go after some of the mid-sized conferences...more than just the ones connected to the university.

You also need to have that hotel that is connected to Scheman to get easy access. ISU has two career fairs this week I think. And they are BIG. If you had a hotel right there, all of the company reps would stay there and have their booths right next door. Honestly, a hotel in that location would be a no-brainer money maker for whatever chain wants in there. You couldn't find a more prime location.
