Nebraska lost its advantage and relevance, I believe, when the ncaa capped Scillies at 85 and took away partial scholarships. They also changed entrance qualifications and that affected NU’s own admittance requirements.
They would have 125 players and many local guys on partials. They’d develop them with the first real great strength and conditioning program with Boyd Epley. The high numbers, partial scholarships, and low entrance requirements was their advantage and when the ncaa stopped all of that they faded and haven’t been relevant since.
Firing Frank Solich was their kiss of death. Karma.

Omaha's 1620TheZone this a.m. discussed Todd Doxson and Sage Rosenfels. Both are pretty convinced that Campbell to NU is not at all likely. Matt loves coaching his daughter's soccer team. His kids love Ames. Money is at the bottom of the list for CMC. He is all about family, community, commitment to the kids he coaches. Plus he loves the challenge of getting ISU to the top. ISU has not been 3-0 since 2012 they said, and it is these achievements at ISU that have CMC motivated.

Just thought those opinions from former players were insightful. Obviously no one knows. But most of the Husker media and fans seem to think Campbell is the obvious choice. It is just irrational how many of them seem to think NU is a dream job. At least Matt Vrzal, a former Husker who gets interviewed regularly, admitted that in football, Nebraska is currently irrelevant.
Vrz is a straight shooter along with some of the others at 1620... also runs a good pizza restaurant.

I wasn't endorsing the guy's opinion. Just sharing the spot in the podcast so people didn't have to listen to an hour of him talking about Nebraska.

There are a ton of things I disagree with that he said. I also don't doubt the guy is connected (at Nebraska) so he is getting most of his information from Nebraska.
Alternative view which I wouldn't be surprised is part of the strategy. MC is a threat to whatever notoriety they have left. Best way to neutralize a threat with recruits is to spread rumors. And what better medium to spread it than egotistical internet junkies.

Some more info on Frost firing is starting to leak out:

-He was allegedly showing up to practice late and drunk or hungover
-He was allegedly kicked out of the country club for behavior
-The golf team complained Frost and his friends were always using their simulator when it was supposed to be reserved for them
-Assistant coaches apparently begged AD to intervene

If any of this is true, I would think they could fire him for cause and not pay him.

Also if true, I would advise Scotty not to copy and paste that list to his resume.

None of those things actually got him fired.

I agree if it was true they could but I just have a hard time believing it right now. If it was as bad as they are saying now why was it not brought up beforehand? Why when they fired him was it about performance and not those things?

I don’t even really have a hard time believing those things happening but it just seems to me like when we say we didn’t want him after a recruit chooses another school.

Agree100%.
Must be things they were willing to allow if he was winning enough games? Wow!

Believe after the Solich firing they started leaking stories of his "transgressions" as well.
