With the acceptance and availability of online sports betting now, I don't put anything past anyone when it comes to fixing a game. The fact that they didn't even review defensive plays Baylor did that were exactly the same, if not worse than what we were flagged for is very suspicious. It flat out makes zero sense that one guy is kicked out of the game for a tackle that happens 4 or 5 other times during the game and there isn't even a review on the play.

Like I said, with online gambling being everywhere now, a little nudge of the spot here, a no call there and a big penalty to keep multiple drives going completely on one side of the ball, I'd be less surprised to find out it was just a completely incompetent officiating crew than to find out they bet on Baylor to cover. It really doesn't take much to move the advantage to one team.

Or just the fact that some people like certain teams the way every fan on this board does. Some of these apologists act like these refs are poorly programmed robots rather than human life forms.

I dont think the game was fixed but they sucked the 1st half. Also 1 of the officials was really friendly the entire game with the Baylor sideline, not a good look.

Yup, and if you are a big fan of Murder and Rape U, how good is your moral compass?

14 unearned points in a 7 point game? He’ll of an “example”.

Just don’t say Baylor played aggressive at all. If they did some of your “examples” would’ve been flags in their defense.
I'm not saying that. I've been just as much on the officiating and the refs apologists. I just attribute it to incompetence rather than some grand scheme of game fixing

One sided incompetence isn’t a thing. The act of focusing these weird anti tacking rules on one team actually proves a level of competence.

Extreme bias favoring Baylor is by far most likely explanation for the refs.
the thing that is really bothering me is they saw the need to review the Fryler hit, but didn't do the same for a few of the Baylor hits, which actually seemed more obvious than ours. They could have ejected a couple of their guys out of the game.

So the decided to look at Baylor’s defense in a competent way and decided to look at ISU’s in an incompetent way?

Or just astronomical luck that all the penalties against normal ho hum defense we’re against ISU.

If they called 30 bad penalties on ISU and zero on Baylor still incompetence? How one sided can it be and still selective incompetence exclusively one way?

Freyler's hit almost didn't get reviewed. Baylor lined up to snap the ball and then backed off and changed the play. He got into the snap count again with the clock running down and they blew the whistle just as they were snapping it. One second more and that doesn't get reviewed and he doesn't get thrown out. On the other hand they had all the time in the world to review the spearing on Brock since they had an injury timeout there. They had plenty of time in the booth to see that he led with the crown of his helmet and to signal down.

Making an example of just one team isn’t just making an example.

Incompetent calls against just one defense isn’t incompetence.

I’ve always found this argument to be fascinating and wondered how fans like you would react if something terrible happened at Iowa State? How long after the terrible incidents would it be ok to root for your alma matter again?

Absolutely yes, the people involved at Baylor with the rape and murder cover ups were/are awful people. Average Joe Baylor alum had nothing to do with those things and IMO shouldn’t be vilified for them. Same for Penn State, Michigan State, etc.

Napoleon said it best. Never ascribe to malice that which is adequately explained by incompetence.

Not that there were any officials there, but being a hated dictator from France, fighting in Belgium against the Brits and Prussians.............

I would say the fix was in at Waterloo.

So what is being done about first half of the game being a fixed pro wrestling match?

Our fans paid to see real sports, not scripted entertainment. What kind of criminal enterprise is this if these guys ever work a big 12 game again?
ISU will file an internal complaint to ask us what we're supposed to do to prevent getting called for the BS penalties.

Big 12 officials will respond with canned response.

Nothing will happen or at the very most, official will get a slap on the wrist.

That's what I would guess.

There is no chance that positioning, angles, game situations, etc. lead to different levels of incompetence? Dude you are one of the most logical members normally- this meltdown is so "unyou".

True, for average Joe Baylor fan. However at Baylor (and Penn State) there were a lot of apologists of those responsible including those wanting to keep Briles and pining for bringing him back after he was gone and those claiming that Joe Pa did nothing wrong and continues to be a Penn State hero. Those aren't innocent Joe Baylor/Jim Penn State fan. Those are putting athletic team/department success way before ethical treatment of individuals.

Incompetence seems like a pretty irrational excuse for the officiating here. Especially if some of our posters are correct that Baylor was so much more aggressive.

These weren't difficult snap judgement close calls that happen all the time. One was reviewed when they could have reviewed 5-6 similar/worse plays the same way and didn't. The other two were completely ridiculous things that never get called and weren't even correct. Taken together it was a fast 14 point gift that seemed to lack the random chaos incompetence would suggest, rather it seemed quite focused on just ISU defense.

If we had 3 close out of bounds calls all go against us I wouldn't call that incompetence either. Close calls happen and sometimes stack up on just one side. The kind of totally strange calls that were only against our defense point to the opposite of exclusively incompetence because incompetence would spread around.

Okay. Call it simple bias. Everyone agrees that happens.

Now unless I'm mistaken the "targeting" call that resulted in an ISU player being ejected wasn't called on the field.

So then how many layers of incompetence need to be sifted through to explain this taking away angles, positions, game situations?

How many threads do we need for this? The refs were completely awful but they just sucked they weren't fixing the game.

So if you officiated an ISU game, Baylor game, KU basketball game, Iowa game...you'd have no bias intentional or subconscious?

Of course you would, your freaking username is CloniesForLife. 100% of people invested enough in sports to become an official have some level of bias like we all do.

It's not some crazy thing. People make it out to be a crazy thing because that makes certain people feel better about it.

Bias is unavoidable. Consequence and responsibility can exist, they don't here.

Are you arguing the refs had a bias or the get was fixed? Those are 2 different things.
