I'm looking forward to the uniforms as long as they incorporate the front numbers better. This was a total afterthought and ruined the look.

That was about all they could do based on uniform rules about jersey number size and color.

Tomorrow calls for the black uni's.

Night game at the Jack, ranked team.
As certain as the other team wearing these.

And these rules have changed?

Not since those last throwbacks.

Have to have a certain number size on the front, and it has to be in a contrasting color. With cardinal and gold colors in the background of the number area, the number couldn't be either of those -- so white was the only option.

Ohio State put black outlines around their numbers on a similar throwback - as you can see, OSU's throwbacks are a much higher quality than ours were - there's were on a current Nike template using the standard elements for material, stripes & numbers - ours were on a very, VERY old template (the same one we still use for practice) & the stripes & numbers were just printed on the jersey using an inexpensive printing method - they looked okay in the promo photos, but looked like trash on the field...

I think our’s were a fast decision without a year of planning. I have confidence they will do these right in order to “meet the moment.”

Didn't Michigan get away with numbers in the corner of the jersey a couple years prior to our throwbacks? Why was our case different? 124586767.jpg.jpg

Yes...before Iowa State and Iowa did theirs.

That group of Big Ten adidas teams (Michigan, Wisconsin, Nebraska) must have found a way around the uniform approval process (or whoever reviewed it didn't give a ****). Since then, nobody's gotten away with it.

Rule changed between these and ours.

Michigan did it in '11. Wisconsin/Nebraska had W vs. N in '12.

Iowa did their throwbacks against ISU in '12, with ISU returning the favor in '13.

Central Michigan did it in '13 (big C, small chest number).

Should be noted that CMU was also an adidas school at the time. So all 4 "illegal" jerseys were adidas, and the two that followed the rules were Nike schools.

The rule didn't change, but the enforcement did. Probably also came down in some part to when the planning started.
