Heads in the sky
I'm afraid this might be the beginning of the end for CMC if he doesn't take some responsibility for these losses and do something about the offense. The fanbase will not be kind to CMC for ridiculing them after all the support they give to this program that continues to lose games they have no business losing.

I forgot how bad your meltdowns are. Absolutely stupid.

I posted this last week, someone leaked his cell number and a bunch of people went after him directly; not to mention in social media. Bad look for the students into boo him during introductions tonight too. I thought it was set up for him to make a game winner at the end of the game, but…
That’s horrible to harass a student like that. We heard boos from others besides students tonight.

I don’t understand the outrage over the comment by Campbell. People take Iowa fans to task for booing their QB but I would not assume they are saying all Iowa fans boo their QB. Clearly some ISU fans have said horrid things about Gilbert online and some even through his phone apparently. By saying “our fanbase” I certainly wouldn’t assume that he means all of our fans, but simply the ones that did.

I was disappointed in Campbell’s decision to send him out on the last kick against KU assuming at that point our kicker had the yips but my beef was with coach, not the kicker. I would have preferred going for it on 4th down. And frankly, while he could have worded this better to appease sensitive souls, I am glad he stood up for his player who seems to have been heavily abused over the last week. Good players don’t want to play for coaches who don’t have their backs.

Our O line can’t block and we’re always third and long. Seems like the old days.

There has been more and more of this lately..."it's always hard here". "Rough side of the mountain" type stuff

I hope not, I love Matt, need to score though too,
We don’t seem to be winning in the margins lately.

Eh…it’s one comment in a press conference after a loss. I don’t think we should be so sensitive as to let it bother us. If it turns into a habit of his to blame the fans, then fine…but this feels like a move on and forget it moment. Too many people try to make news out of nothing.
Agreed.

Perhaps the underlying theme is not Matt's statement about the kicker and the fans, but his lack of a statement that the Offensive coaching and the offensive side of the team needs to improve.

Couple the two and maybe you have a bit of a situation.

he may or may not make changes.

And that is fine, but you damn well identify where your deficient, and hit the portal hard to see if you can fill some of that void. Tight End would seem to be a very high priority.

Another receiver or 2.
Agreed. I haven't watched the film to see where we are deficient offensively. There are many potential factors:

1. Young quarterback making wrong reads / missing throws
2. Receivers not getting open
3. Bad blocking
4. Bad scheme / play calling
5. Injuries hurting running back position
6. TE room underperforming

Some of these fall on the coaching, but maybe we only need one or two personnel upgrades via the portal or recruiting that open up the offense (i.e. maybe the reason we can't throw down the field vertically is because we don't have a receiver with speed + height to get separation).

What would be a good idea from CycloneFanatic is to get an ex-player or coach to run a film-room show weekly to break down our deficiencies and what teams are exploiting. Campbell press conferences are useless in this regard since he just spews coach-speak, but I'm sure behind the scenes they have good discussions that we'd all like to sit in on.

No.

We get it.

He's mad because he knows the Fire Manning thread was out there.

And is only going to get more attention now.

He couldn't defend Tom directly, so he, once again, sent his freshman kicker out there.

Deflection and projection.

This was him taking a shot at us, telling us to back off his best friend.

Shows that Manning is firmly entrenched in the ISU football coaching family.
Let him leave , Make John Heacock the head coach. I think at this stage it may get better , with John at the helm.
OK. Fine. Take your marbles and run home to Mommy then?

Campbell is the best coach we've had, arguably. For me, he has the acquired credits to do things the way he sees fit. For now.

It's going to be a bumpy road I'm afraid, from this point on. I don't see the offensive scheme coaching and ingenuity that it will take for ISU to be as successful as in recent years. I hope I'm wrong.

Campbell will have to figure this one out himself. Unfortunately, he and ISU, are losing some fans in the process.

I'm not surprised because its not the first time. He bristled every time someone dared criticized Purdy. He bristled every time someone mentioned the fact that last season didn't meet expectations.

Personally I don't care because A) a coach should stick up and protect his players and B) like I said, I don't care.

His comments about the offense were far more disturbing to me than a head coach doing his job and protecting his player from a personal attack. Acting like we're close to reasonably a functioning offense is more insulting to anyone whose watched us play people other than SEMO or Ohio. His statements about our offense sound frighteningly like Ferentz and also makes me believe 100% the problem goes beyond Tom Manning but more scheme and overall vision which starts with CMC.

Do I think he's a great fit for Iowa State ? Yeah. But he's stubbornness or as some might call it loyalty to staff, players and a system might end up biting us / him in the end. Perhaps it'll work out and we'll look like dopes. IDK. But I had far more cringe based on his comments on the offense than anything else.

I don't disagree with anything you said but just being 100% honest - right now - I feel like losing Heacock would be a bigger play to the program.

If I was a big time college with a defense that was crap, say - IDK - Oklahoma - I'd open the pocket book and a blank check and ask how much do you want Jon.

Well, you do care or you wouldn't be here. We all care and want to see our team be the best we can be. The colloquialisms are getting a bit worn though.

Therein lies part of the problem when the words do not sync with the actions.

Love Campbell but a ****** MASSIVE attempt to redirect attention and blame for the past 2 weeks. Almost an FU to the fans that keep showing up.

This is really his first big test of adversity while in Ames and not a great way to start dealing with it.
I AGREE Jeremy...when a football coach starts BLAMING THE FANS, It's time to realize that the football coach doesn't know exactly HOW TO FIX HIS OFFENSE!!

Adrian Martinez showed the world how to EXPLOIT A THREE MAN FRONT WITH EIGHT GUYS DROPPING INTO COVERAGE....ITS SIMPLE...RUN WITH THE FOOTBALL!!

If your quarterback can't run with the football ...you are in heep big trouble offensively...hence 20 points on the scoreboard in eight freaking quarters!!

Yeah, something clearly isn’t right but I would also be in the “let’s not fire our head coach after a one point loss to a ranked team” camp.

I think you are getting the cart in front of the horse here. I understand the sentiment though.

Ok, so when I said I didn't care I meant I didn't care that he defended his freshman kicker the way he did. I have no problem with that. I don't have a problem with him defending Purdy. I don't have a problem with him not liking people saying the team didn't meant expectations.. I don't care about that part, is what I meant. To me its much to do about nothing.

The comments about the offense on the other hand - those I Do care about and find very troubling

I didn't blame the kicker for Kansas loss. Kansas has given up 30+ every game but ours. If the kicker makes his kicks we still only make it to 20. Our offense sucks and there isn't any denying that
I AGREE tman24...This is the most inept offense since the days of Jimmy Dean Walden and his Option Offense!!

Brock Purdy bailed Campbell and his OC out time and time again by running with the football...Dekkers is the wrong kind of quarterback for today's college football...A QUARTERBACK THESE DAYS NEEDS TO BE ABLE TO RUN WITH THE DAMNED FOOTBALL!!

Maybe you're right , maybe I am. But we've been near elite defensively for many years. We have Clemson, among other programs coming into talk to us about our defense. and learn from Heacock.

No matter who the defense seems to lose - we remain good and despite losing Rose, our DB's who transferred and graduated, Bailey, Enyi, etc - we actually are better now than we were with them. I can't say the same about the offense or ST

Someone should ask Campbell about which schools has better fans.

Maybe fans at SEC schools? Maybe fans at Big 10 schools? Maybe Ohio State fans? I have heard Ohio State fans don't criticize players and coaches.

Dude is doing a fine job, no doubt. It makes the contrast with the offense, well, more offensive.
