Testifying
3rd. I was in upstate New York for work, several years ago. And I asked the office that was visiting what are some things that I should check out while I was there. And one of the main suggestions was "Go to Wegmans". I asked if it was a bar or a restaurant, and they were like "It's a grocery store!"

I remember thinking it was an odd place to suggest visitors go, but I did check it out. And while it wasn't exactly what I would call a tourist destination, it was a pretty awesome grocery store.
When Fresh Thyme opened some stores in the area it had a mini Wegman's vibe.

I spoke with a guy the other day who had extensive dealing with the Minneapolis stores. I believe he said there were 25 in the Metro and only 2 were making money.

13 in the Twin Cities.

Hy-Vee plans to continue to operate their 13 stores currently in the Twin Cities, and maintain sponsorships of the Vikings, Wild, Timberwolves and Lynx.

I will have to ask him about that number.

Behind you
313-150 + 184-92 + 129-58 + 38:15-21:45 = 10-7.

The whole brand vibe Hy Vee has established is just so weird. Their ad campaign's core message is basically "hey look at us we're an Iowa company that has enough money to pay Drew Barrymore and Pat Mahomes and Travis Kelce to appear in our commercials" and that's basically it. It's just really, really bad.

Albertsons and Kroger are set to announce a merger soon. I know a lot of people had thought one of those companies might be looking to purchase Hy-Vee, but for now it appears rather unlikely.

in interesting grocery store news.... Kroger and Albertsons are merging announced

Apparently they need to merge so they can compete against Walmart. This will be very interesting. Around here, in many places, Albertsons and Kroger have megastores literally across the street from each other, and they are both busy. If they merge, competition is gone in that neighborhood, or one has to drive further to get to a Target or Walmart (who don't have nearly the variety that the big KrogerSons do). H-E-B is trying to move into the area. Maybe the courts will make KrogerSons sell off some stores to H-E-B.

I'm not a big fan of all the consolidation in the food industry.

I was in HyVee on Tuesday at 5:30. My son saw a sign that said "Kids eat free on Tuesdays at Wahlburger" so we went. There wasn't anyone there. The whole restaurant had three tables of people. They had a decorate your own cookie station, free cupcakes, a guy making balloon animals, and no people. I was shocked. My burger was good though and I also got 1/2 price tap (Hawktoberfest - great beer bad name).

Perhaps United Natural Foods (UNFI) will gobble up Hy-Vee as it did the Minnesota chain SuperValu (Cub). That would certainly put up a large front to fight the Wal-Mart and Target super stores in the upper mid-west.

I don't think of having dinner or buying shoes at my grocery store.

H-E-B was very busy at the Austin location I hit. Seemed like a good store.

Around here we have the worst chain grocery store. Jewel-Osco is absolutely the worst shopping experience. I have never been to one where the employees or customers seemed happy. The stores have all been rundown and not updated since Clinton was in office.

A lot like this area in general

Son’s Hy-Vee in the KC area is a struggle to find the food.

They have a Chiefs store at the front. Also a medical clinic with its waiting area in the store by the pharmacy. Always nice to roam by sick people when buying food. Then if you go by rows of toys and clothes you might find food.

I had made an apple pie to bring for dinner and was looking to buy ice cream. The selection was small and not great. So son says we should just stop at CVS on the way back to the apartment, they have better ice cream. He was right.

FYI they also make a beer called Clonefest. I think it might be the same.
