The odds that Hunter ever produces in the NBA like Haliburton already has are about 1000 to 1.
I think he's a long-shot to make the NBA. He's under-sized and a lot of really good college players don't make it to the NBA. I still like the kid though. If I grew up dirt poor, I'd take the money.

I know he’s a tough player but he doesn’t come off that way here. I honestly don’t know what he is trying to say. Hope he gets locked the F down when he comes to Ames
He's cool as a cucumber. He'll contribute at Texas unless he gets crosswise of the coaches or gets injured.

He will. Only way he hurts ISU is if he gets hot from behind the line ala v.s. LSU in the 1st round of the NCAA tourney this past year. He won't be able to get around Gabe (you know he'll be on him) and in the chance he gets a screen set or gets by Gabe, he's gonna have Osun or Hassan waiting for him in the painted area. Good luck finishing against either of those two. He was pretty terrible around the rim last year.

Weird explanation and 'whatever' gif.

A positive is he didn't give any indications by his play at ISU that he didn't want to be there.

With the culture of college basketball and transfers, I can only want the player to give their all when they're in Ames whether it's a freshman or someone using their Covid year.

He had a good thing going here. Not sure he does now. Time will tell.

Seems like yesterdays news to me. Not sure I care what he says months later as long as he isn't calling out our program or dissing TJ. He left, his right to do so. As long as he didn't torch ISU by badmouthing us on the way out, or later, why should we care?

Soon Texas will be gone and we will only to deal with the NCAA and league kissing Kansas's ass all the way through every recruiting cycle and every season. Bigger issue than the departing Texas.

His "reasoning" is contradictory. He left because he wants to showcase his skills but he also doesn't want as much weight on his shoulders. Huh?

He didn't like being the only true point guard here. If you want to play in the NBA you better show them that you're a good point guard, because you definitely won't be playing any other positions. I don't know how going to play with another point guard is going to show the NBA anything.

Some teams at the next level don’t even start a true point guard or need one because the biggest guy on the team is a better passer and shooter than Hunter.

He needs to radically improve his shot to get a real look, it could happen. I’m not sure there’s anything special about Texas for improving a shot.

I’m sure he could’ve found schools where he got some cash for his family while getting a staff that could improve his shot. Since he got no money.

Would love to hear the real story behind this. Have heard through the grapevine that it wasn’t all NIL (although that was definitely part of it) and he didn’t love TJ’s style and would have transferred without NIL. But who knows what’s true…

Either way, I want to root for people who want to be in Ames and play for Iowa State. Hunter didn’t so good luck in Texas and I’ll cheer for the players that want to be here.
If he didn’t like TJ’s style, playing for Chris Beard is certainly a choice.

We already landed Williams and Lipsey before he left too

Liar liar pants on fire. I don't believe it for a bit. Would love is some former player or a coach would just spill the beans on what they know about his departure but doubt it happens. I'll still boo the **** out of him when he comes to Ames. I'd be at peace if he would just come out and say it was about the money at some level then I could at least respect the honesty.

I was at a Chicago Bulls playoff game at the UC in 2009 when they played the Celtics the game after Rajon Rondo threw Kirk Hinrich (F Kansas) into the scorers table. He got booed mercilessly every time he touched the ball. I expect the same treatment for Hunter from Hilton.

Did he slip up here, or am I just not understanding the quote?
First he says he didn’t discuss NIL until he committed but then says NIL was getting bigger at each school he looked at?

Zero percent,” Hunter said on Wednesday when asked what role NIL played in his decision to transfer during the Big 12’s men’s basketball media day in Kansas City. “That narrative, it was crazy. I didn’t know how it came out. I never even talked about no NIL with Texas until after I committed. That was just little opportunities. I felt like that came with any school I went to. NIL was getting bigger and bigger as schools go along. My main focus was to get to the next level and player development.”
