Do the 4 G5 teams get an equal share day one? Becuase if that’s combined that’s barely 34mil per school. Obv you can add more for the lower rights but breaking 40mil might be tough. That would only be 5mil more per team then what the PAC was offered.
No they are on a progressive scale each year, not full earning for a while.

Lets wait to celebrate how great Yormark is until further along in his tenure, or at least until we know the actual details of a new big 12 deal.

Anything is better than Bowlsby, and I think we might be overreacting just because we have someone competent.

Agree, I think the new commish is exactly what the Big12 needed. The last guy seemed like an idiot but that’s just an outside perspective

He did. But also he probably was limited in what he could do. A commish can only do what the membership supports, and I don't think OUT were exactly acting in the best interest of the conference as a whole most of the time.

I’m a broken record but remember when Stewart Mandel wrote a piece a year ago saying the Big 12 leftovers were worth $12 mil per school per year?

How are you the NATIONAL college football writer for the Athletic and miss something by 4x??
Mandel is an idiot but when your own commish says revenue is getting cut in half with OUT leaving and you were getting roughly 25mil per from tier 1 that’s just math. Both your old commish and all the reporters that listened to him are morons.

That is really positive news

TBH, I was hoping to get away from ESPN and test new markets. With the cost of the SEC and NFL deals, ESPN is only going to get more and more expensive. Then having to have the ESPN+ add-on just adds more. Big12 sports is the only reason I keep our YTTV subscription, so even a $20 add on to Amazon or Apple TV would have been nice.

Then beyond the costs, you have the constant SEC love fest throughout all broadcasts.

That's why I have Hulu+Live, Espn+ and Disney+ is included for the same price as YTTV, without having to add them on as additional costs above YTTV.

So with that, even though I have both Apple+ and Amazon right now. If I don't in the future it I could save money, and could save money over YTTV, plus Espn+ sub.

I get the angst for ESPN, but for the price its hard to argue the distribution and quality of broadcast vs the other Streaming only options at this point. Not saying Apple, Amazon or others wont get there in the future, I am just not sure they are there at this point. Moving all or a large part of our product there will be detrimental to our value, viewership, and publicity. Similar to what the lack of viewability of the Pac 12 network has done only on a larger scale if we have more or all of our content in only that form.

Having tier 3 only on a streamer like ESPN+ is one thing but more than that would be a terrible business plan at least currently. And because so many have and look for their sports content on ESPN, ESPN+ is a better streaming option than Apple etc. Not to mention the content is already integrated into the Hulu+Live interface, so people see the games show up right on Hulu+Live, rather than having to look other places, thus increasing viewability.

I think you have to take the money over hoping that new entrants to the market come to the plate with more.

Fair point. I forgot that Bowlsby said out loud that revenue might get cut in half. And Yormark, 2.5 months on the job, is increasing revenue. Who’s still saying Bowlsby was a good commish his final couple of years??

Wasn't Bowlsby trying to set up to throw a wrench into the OU/UT exit when he said that? Not disagreeing that Yormark is light years ahead of Bowlsby, just saying that figure was exaggerated for effect.

Playing devil's advocate here. Bowlsby's comments very well could have been strategic to help with contract buyouts for OuT. Showing harm for their departure would be important for any negotiations with them leaving before the end of the contract term.

365 said from a source 60 million. Not sure it will be that much.
Their $60M figure was after the big bump conferences will receive with 12 team playoff.
There is some justification as playoff money per school could jump $15-20M annually vs today.

His time might have passed, but he wasn't unique. The Big 10 moved on from Delaney to Warren(NFL). The Pac12's commissioner's last job was MGM.

Just a sign that college athletics has transformed in a decade.

I think Yormark loves the way JP operates. Creative, innovative, smart as hell, and has attitude. I don't think our staff cared much for Bowlsby. This could be the start of a great relationship. Add on losing the OUT favoritism I can't be more excited about the new Big XII.

I had posted a month ago that the numbers being talked about behind the doors were in the 45-55 range and I think that holds true still. You may see some posturing with final public statements including expected revenue from the playoff expansion that would skew it higher than it may be short term.
