Could Iowa State go bowling at 5-7?

We don't need extra practices, we need to start putting the ball in the endzone and quit making so many comical special teams errors. I don't know how 3 weeks of extra practice in December helps what's been plaguing this program for the last few years.

There are a lot of seniors who know a bowl game is their last turn on a ride they love with all their hearts. For that reason alone anything that extends the season by one game is a good thing, imho...

So your solution to fixing issues that can be solved by repetition and muscle memory is by having...less practice?

Interesting idea.

Well, we've went to 5 straight bowl games and the extra practice hasn't fixed the issues yet. What makes you think it will be different this time?

The time to greatly expand the college football playoff is now. Let’s play and watch meaningful postseason games for once!

I tend not to buy it. It just sounds like a cheesy excuse to me. I doubt there's a ton of benefit to it. I suspect any seniors with NFL prospects would smartly sit it out.

UCLA skipped a bowl game years ago because they would lose money on the deal. I think the financial aspect of any game that would invite a 5-7 team is worth looking at. If it would lose money, don't go at all. If the #s are fine, then go ahead, I suppose.

I expect that Hutchinson and McDonald will both be strongly advised to sit out a bowl game whether we are 8-4 or 5-7.

I find the excuse that we lost 4 games by 14 points a lame reference. 14 or 1000 you LOST! Don’t bs yourself - we are 3-4 and May go 3-9! Stop with the moral victory crap - it is just sad! Comical errors, missed opportunities and drops in critical drives all point to an unprepared team who panics as their coach is indecisive! Don’t be that guy/gal who plays the lame card! We had TexAss game - I was there- and we lost it. The refs sucked but they did not throw a pick in the end zone, Miss a FG or drop a wide open TD pass! Dreaming of a bowl is psychological masturbation. The team is inept at times - hopefully the RB’s are back and the Oline keeps progressing! That TexAss game plan was working - if RB’s on we win going away. One game at a time. Stop the bowl talk!

Using one season as an example is a very limited sample size. The point is that having the extra practices in December is like getting a free Spring Practice. It will work out better for some teams than others, but having time to give reps, try stuff out, give the younger players more time to practice is simply never a bad thing.

And the guys behind them would get valuable reps with the first team...and the guys behind them would get valuable reps with the second team. It is a headstart on getting a unit to work together.

I think you need to brush your teeth, dude.
On national tv vs. #7 Nebraska at home in overtime (+ last game we will likely ever play against them in-conference) and the guy throws an absolute duck to a wide-open receiver.

That game was a gut punch. Would had made us bowl-eligible as well.

I just want to play them in a bowl and win like 42-3.

That tends to happen when you send in a player who doesn’t throw the ball as their full time job.

A very 'ISU' thing would be to play someone like NU and get beat by the interim coach.

ISU is probably better but the game would still likely come down to a handful of plays.

ISU would blow the game on special teams but we'd hear how the special teams had success all season in the post game press conference.

At the same time, to move the goalposts, it's pretty debateable whether extra practice with this offensive coaching staff helps anybody.
Move the goalposts indeed.

When you look at where this program was pre-Campbell the commentary around this site tells me that we have a spoiled fanbase. Are we in great shape - no. Are we leaps and bounds better. Absolutely. But since we aren't in great shape in a year we all knew - or should have known - would be a rebuilding year, the coaching staff is terrible and isn't doing the players a bit of good.

Get a grip.

At least you're not addressing the question.
