Campbell Still in Demand?

Beginning to wonder how much of the 2020 season success was dodging major covid issues, and playing teams that just didn't avoid it and players stay disciplined as well as we did. And we didn't have to play Iowa. It sure has been a s**t show since beating Oregon. Last year a historic flop.

I don't think COVID was the primary reason for our 2020 success. We just had an elite group of players who were able to succeed despite the coaching.

After one of those horrible first half penalties called on us.... they panned to CMC and he just laughed and shook his head. It's like he already knows that he will never get any calls while at ISU.... and unfortunately he's right.

The sport is all about $$$..... and the Big 12 has no interest in ISU being the top team in the league.
Yet K State is definitely that big in-demand team? Tiny little TCU too or middle of nowhere Stillwater, OK? Come on with this stupid take. Officials suck and they are just flat out bad in college football for the most part. Mighty Texas had 14 penalties to 0 for Oklahoma State last week.

Yeah, I’ve said for a year that the sentiment was growing nationally that he’s simply hit the ceiling for success at ISU. He is still in big demand, but there will be some schools that wouldn’t be able to sell it to their fans after the past two years.
Sad part is this team is probably undefeated with an offense that at least had a pulse.

Is this the same crowd that said he was gone after his second year or the crowd that said he was gone after a New Years 6 bowl win or the crowd that said he is gone to USC, Tennessee, New York? Unfortunately with ISU we have ups and downs and ceilings and valleys due to recruiting 3 vs 5 star talent. It takes time to rebuild once those 5 star culture guys leave. The issue though is even with all the turnover from last year, this team isn’t really rebuilding, the talent is all over the field. Maybe he hasn’t reached his ceiling as a coach, but maybe some of his position coaches have?

The rest of this year will be a test of the skill of this coaching staff. Do they have the ability to turn things around? Does CMC have the ability to make the tough decisions that must be made? I sincerely hope so, but it’s up to CMC to prove his head coaching ability by turning things around when things are going bad.

The reality is that we aren’t ready to just reload like we thought. He gave us 3 nfl RBs, very good TEs, and the most consistently productive QB we’ve ever had. Not to mention a consistently good defense. He’s a good coach.

Realistically with Campbell we will hover around 7 wins most years and occasionally fight for the B12 every once in a while and also have a season like this one every once in a while.

I think that’s the pattern without a substantial upgrade in offensive and special teams coaching.

I don't see any reason we can't be competitive in the new Big XII. We're competitive on resources with the new conference members.

Just wait though. Liberty just handed out a 5mil/yr contract guaranteed for 8 years. Coaching salaries are already high but on the precipice of a big leap upwards. With a rabid but cheap fanbase, it won’t get any easier.

That was a very talented team. If this team still had Purdy, Hall and the Tight ends, the Cyclones would not be on a 5 game losing streak and would still be alive in the Big Xii standings. Never discount how good that team was just because others like to discount it due to Covid. If anything, ISU should be applauded for being the best they could be during that tough year.

ISU donations NIL wise are poor.
Whether any of us like that model, it's a fact.

Purdy alone and this team is 5-2. Doesn’t discount the disappointment or the coaching criticisms.

All of those teams underachieved and it was due to coaching.

He is. The average fan from around the country probably feels like it’s hard to sustain success at Iowa State and that Campbell should have left a year or two ago. Hopefully Campbell doesn’t feel the same way. Complain all we want about this year, but Campbell has coached the best stretch in Iowa State football history.
No, Earle Bruce did from 1976-1978. That was three-8 win seasons in a row against an elite Big 8 conference. Only the 2020 season matches those achievements. The only consistency was 2017 through 2018.

Notice how CMC laughed off Randy’s even slight mention of going under center on 3rd and 1. That’s where we’re at folks. Reminded me so much of KF. How dare you even mention going under center….. even though it’s the right call.

Short answer… Yes, he is.
Man I don’t think so. He had a starting NFL RB last year and the best QB in school history (now on and NFL roster) and 2 great college TE’s. Also a really solid D and he went 7-6. Now his team is falling apart this year and it’s glaring that the biggest issue is execution. He would be a really hard sell right now.
