Matt Campbell is ELITE in building a culture and program but him and his staff have gotten outcoached by nearly every P5 staff we have played over the past 2 years. If it wasn’t for Heacock, it would be Paul Rhoads bad.
That's my worry, who replaces Heacock when he retires or moves on? Are we grooming anyone for that job?

Well I’ll say this. Things will go down in flames if he isn’t willing to get rid of manning. We will all just have to sit and wait that out.
Sounds like watching the set play offense in basketball. Remember when McDermott had 2 NBA draft picks on his team and didn't even make the NCAA tourney? Happy days are here again.....

No, Earle Bruce did from 1976-1978. That was three-8 win seasons in a row against an elite Big 8 conference. Only the 2020 season matches those achievements. The only consistency was 2017 through 2018.
Disagree. Campbell has more wins over top 5 teams and his teams don’t get blown out the way Bruce’s teams did.

I don’t like all the things Campbell says as they seem coach talk/fakey, but the players seem to love him and he recruits pretty solid… so he’s going to have a pretty long leash with me.
Plus, just because he uses "CoachSpeak" doesn't mean that he isn't trying to fix the issues behind the scenes. He has a long leash with me too. Heck, I still think ISU is a single "get over the hump" game away from finishing this season strong.

If they beat WVU next week, I think they can win @ Oklahoma State and beat TT too. @ TCU might be asking a bit much, but ISU has beaten them the past two years, so why not? First things first though, BEAT WVU!

Let's Go State!

I respect your opinion but I maintain mine Bruce was the best coach at Iowa State ever.

CMC hasn’t had three 8 win seasons in a row despite having more games in a season. Bruce did not have a building season once he hit 8 wins.

CMC has to win every game remaining this season and the bowl game to hit 8 wins and do it the next two seasons.

CMC has had some great seasons but it is really starting to look like the best seasons were 2017 and 2018.

I don’t buy into this close loss narrative at all. Who would want a 7-6 season with 6 close losses over a 9-4 or 10-3 season with a few blow out losses?

It looks like we are going to find out what the next three seasons under CMC will bring. If he can bring three 8 win seasons in a row without any conditions on who was defeated or difficulty of the season I will be willing to concede he surpassed Earle Bruce as greatest Iowa State football coach ever.

Bruce did have the advantage of 4 non conference games. Bruce never won a Bowl game. Let alone a Fiesta Bowl.

I want whatever you’re smoking because this team is going winless in conference.

He had three wins over Big 8 teams that finished the season with more than 6 wins: Missouri his first year and then Nebraska in ‘76 and ‘77.

I really don’t think the resumes are close. I think some of us are discounting some of the things we’ve done under Campbell because he’s elevated the level of success to the point that it no longer seems like a big deal. We beat an Oklahoma State team last year that was a yard away from the CFP and people are like “meh”. That was maybe Campbell’s third best win and it was better than any win Bruce had.

Offensively we can’t keep up with anybody in this conference. Winless it is

Heacock for head coach? Campbell as HC is in year 7, I'm finished with it. We will always support our kids in the program regardless of results, but the Campbell crew, we're out. We're serious donors, but c'mon, this isn't moving the ball forward, no matter how much coach-speak Campbell wants to offer. We won't attend any more FB games this year, waiting for some basketball (boys and girls) and wrestling!

Listening to Andy Staples last week on Pardon My Take, he believes those high profile programs that typically are into him aren’t too concerned about Campbell this year and that beating Texas would have kept the same shine. For example, believes he would be great at Nebraska, believes Nebraska has same interest in him as they did 2 months ago, only difference is Nebraska fan base probably won’t be as excited
