We should have beaten Iowa and won the conference with the talent we had and this amazing coaching staff you love.

Biggest underachievement since 2005.

This coaching staff brought in that talent. They are bringing in more talent. Inconsistency is killing us. We make big mistakes that kill us. Struggling. Best course of action is to let Campbell figure it out. He will. Your plan of chasing away Campbell is idiotic. What is your plan other than to ***** and moan constantly?

To me it's not the results as much of the patterns and habits producing these results.

Feels like we're actively losing more than being beaten by far superior teams.
Yes.

Teams have figured CampbellBall out, and simply play accordingly.

Typically, if it is close now, they win, we don't, at around 80%.

We "keep it close", but don't win.

Even with NFL talent we rarely could adequately respond to our opponents' realization and adjustments.

I'm trying to make Cyclone Nation aware that the Campbell moment has passed.

Any mistakes in a game will doom ISU due to Campbell's style. He didn't figure it out with more talent last year, what new "difference making" talent do you see fixing his stubbornness?

CampbellBall is completely out of touch with the style of football kids want to play. Best athletes are now at QB and WR, where they get paid. Not RB. Even defenders want stats. All of those things work against ISU in recruiting now. Every D1 football player thinks they are going to the NFL. NFL is a passing and sack league now.

CMC is gonna make ISU KF style with a worse line and a tougher schedule. Imagine defending that and wanting more of that.

Bruce did have the advantage of 4 non conference games. Bruce never won a Bowl game. Let alone a Fiesta Bowl.
they were on trimesters and he was without some starters in those games.

2020 is seeming to be a fluke year where the breaks went our way in some close games and we beat teams at the right time. Oregon was not a good football team and we dodged Iowa because of COVID. The last two years, we haven’t gotten the breaks in close games and seem to be playing teams at the wrong time.

The most frustrating part about this program is they have already done the hard part, which is build a great defense. That is the hardest thing in college football to pull off. Offense is the easy part, most schools can put a competent offense on the field but we failed at the easy part of the game. If we just had a mediocre offense this year we would be undefeated. We are wasting a great defense with this garbage offense. And for Gods sakes, hire a fking special teams coach please.

Feels like Blum isn’t doing near enough with the collective. How often do you see updates on this site about it? We need to know what they’re doing with the money. Is he targeting any MAC or FCS guys with NIL offers who can be difference makers?
Thought I’d jump in here. We’ve helped with 30 Iowa State student athletes in the last six months. We literally are not allowed and don’t have the resources to target other teams at this point. That was not the intent. Donors are getting regular updates to our activities and goals and we will be having a broader marketing push in next several weeks to be more visible for everyone attending Jack Trice. The best way to learn more is to donate even $1 and that will get you the regular updates. We could use the support to keep our guys. Appreciate your consideration.

I am sure this season has hurt Matt Campbell's ability to jump to a blue blood type program that are currently solid programs and their coach decides to move on after this season. Examples would be programs like LSU, Notre Dame, USC or Oklahoma after last season. I would bet Matt Campbell is still very attractive to programs like Nebraska, Ga Tech, ASU. And there will be other similar programs that could be looking for a new coach after the season like Indiana.

Campbell isn't the perfect coach, but he is a great leader and he cares about his players. AND he does thing right from an academics and developing his players to be successful in life.

We are close, all of our 5 losses have come down to 2 or 3 plays. But sport is binary- the end result is either a W or L.

Campbell is the right coach for the job, but he needs to really evaluate some of the position coaches in the offensive side of the ball. Specifically at OL.
I would say (and I am probably wrong) but I think that Matt C needs to reevaluate his recruiting & go heavy in the portal for next year.

If Matt C loses the rest of this season the heat will really be on him next year to get to a bowl game!!

Yeah, I’ve said for a year that the sentiment was growing nationally that he’s simply hit the ceiling for success at ISU. He is still in big demand, but there will be some schools that wouldn’t be able to sell it to their fans after the past two years.
Matt Campbell could be the second coming of Scott Frost ie able to win at ISU but no where else...I feel sorry for Scott Frost but DAMM I would love to have his bank account right now!!
Good ol boy Frosty took an extra four million dollars from his alma mater Nebraska

The reality is that we aren’t ready to just reload like we thought. He gave us 3 nfl RBs, very good TEs, and the most consistently productive QB we’ve ever had. Not to mention a consistently good defense. He’s a good coach.

Realistically with Campbell we will hover around 7 wins most years and occasionally fight for the B12 every once in a while and also have a season like this one every once in a while.

I think that’s the pattern without a substantial upgrade in offensive and special teams coaching.
HOW ABOUT UPGRADING RECRUITING?

I respect your opinion but I maintain mine Bruce was the best coach at Iowa State ever.

CMC hasn’t had three 8 win seasons in a row despite having more games in a season. Bruce did not have a building season once he hit 8 wins.

CMC has to win every game remaining this season and the bowl game to hit 8 wins and do it the next two seasons.

CMC has had some great seasons but it is really starting to look like the best seasons were 2017 and 2018.

I don’t buy into this close loss narrative at all. Who would want a 7-6 season with 6 close losses over a 9-4 or 10-3 season with a few blow out losses?

It looks like we are going to find out what the next three seasons under CMC will bring. If he can bring three 8 win seasons in a row without any conditions on who was defeated or difficulty of the season I will be willing to concede he surpassed Earle Bruce as greatest Iowa State football coach ever.
I AGREE also that Stubby Earle Bruce was the best coach in the history of ISU football...btw my first ISU football game was Oct 1962 at Lincoln NE where Dave Hoppmann and Tom Vaughn took on the great Bob Brown and Co!!

Who else besides Earle Bruce has gone over to Iowa City and beat the hoks ...here it comes...31-0! and yes I was at the game also!

Those games are close for the other teams too.

They do CampbellBall better than ISU. They win 4 out of 5 times.

Now what?
