Agree. Just think if ISU had the extra $40-$50MM in revue to put towards it....I think that's why Cytown is so important.

I have yet to see those projections for the Big12, I have seen best case scenario in the $50MM range . Big10 is a guaranteed $90mm, that's not factoring in any playoffs, etc.It appears we are pushing $60-$65, including playoffs. Yet to be confirmed. bigtin numbers were $75 before playoffs.
Might the meeting today be an emergency meeting given what the Big 12 announced? I don't know, maybe it was previously scheduled. Is there any way that deal is similar to ours but Washington and Oregon don't sign a significant grant of rights? Does hesitation to do that alone set off implosion?
If the meeting is today would that mean real news next week? Isn't that about how it was for B12?
There probably has to be some sort of compromise. At the end of the day Washington and Oregon need a home.Is there any way that deal is similar to ours but Washington and Oregon don't sign a significant grant of rights? Does hesitation to do that alone set off implosion?

Athletics could make payments beyond tuition back to the universities. That already happens at some schools.I've made this point in the past, but athletic departments are either a division of a university or they are separate tax ID number and are a nonprofit.
Can you imagine making all this money and all of your facilities are up to speed thru capex dollars and maintenance expenditures are taken care of? The big variable expense in the future to get them to break even will be salary expense. Obviously, tuition will never go down, but the coaches' salaries will be the plug item to be sure that they are not "making money" and continue to operate at or near break even.
A twist?

Not sure if this Scheer tweet has been posted yet but is telling that the AD’s are skeptical on George K’s numbers.
I am starting to believe Yormark getting the deal done was a chess move to force the PAC 10 to show their hand and get concrete numbers to the schools. That will force a decision.
In the comments, he replied media only.I'm curious what Baseline means? Is that only media? Or is that total payout (media, bowls, CFP, etc.)?

Several schools do that already. My main point is that maintaining a non-profit status is already a sham and will continue to be more of that in the future.Athletics could make payments beyond tuition back to the universities. That already happens at some schools.
B1G ain't getting $90 mill just from its FOX/NBC/CBS media deal. That'll end up coming in at around $70-$72 mill per school after the first few years. The projections of $90-$100 mill include all the other stuff, or maybe all the other stuff minus the expanded playoff $$$.I have yet to see those projections for the Big12, I have seen best case scenario in the $50MM range . Well, I assume you mean that non-profit organizations actually do make a profit from time-to-time, and that money is used internally rather than distributed to the owners, plus non-profits are tax exempt, thus the term.Several schools do that already. My main point is that maintaining a non-profit status is already a sham and will continue to be more of that in the future.
Sure, But there are a lot of schools that are not in the Big 10 or SEC that will be making less too, and there are a lot of schools that are not in the Big 12 that will or probably will be making less than the Big 12. Hell the ACC is stuck making what they are for 15 more years, we will be half way through our next contract by the time they get to renegotiate their current one.Truth hurts. I'm sure JP would love an extra $40-$50MM more a year.
Considering how things looked, I'm not sure how anyone can be a downer about this. Sure, the absolute $ gap between ISU and the Big 10 and SEC, but during the most critical years of facility build-up as a percentage of revenue the gap was massive, yet ISU managed to not only keep its head above water, it managed to dramatically close the gap in facilities and most importantly, on the field success.Sure, But there are a lot of schools that are not in the Big 10 or SEC that will be making less too, and there are a lot of schools that are not in the Big 12 that will or probably will be making less than the Big 12. I also am more optimistic that the numbers will come out higher than expected as they have basically every year, than lower. My belief is as the years go on and these contracts start paying and we have our other money added in etc, we are going to be more like 20-25M behind each year of the contract, rather than 40-50M. Considering we are 10-15M behind now, yes the gap will have widened but now as far as you doom and gloomers believe.
And then if have more expansion, that brings in more escalators to the contract, plus more of Yormark's ideas to increase the leagues revenues, we may actually see that gap shrink more.
A year ago those of you that thought the sky was falling said we would be lucky to get half what we were making, if not be only making G5 money. Now it comes out that we are getting a 75% increase in the Media contract alone and you still believe we are doomed. At some point you have to start believing we might be ok, sure we might not be the highest paid program in the country, but we never have been, OU, UT, Bama, Iowa have always made more, but we have consistently and considerably increased our income year over year, and have funded everything as well or better than some of those high paid programs. Hell Iowa has had a budget much larger than ours forever and still has had to cut sports, not pay contractors, and come in over budget year over year. They are well in the Red, just like a lot of the big money programs are. Yet we are not.
We are looking at probably a 10M+ increase per year, when many were worried we could lose that much or more per year. This should give us the confidence to restart several projects (like Hilton reno, etc.) that were put on hold until we knew our financial future. Then with the probable income from CyTown that can also give us a boost to close the gap to other programs.
Things look bright in Iowa State's Future, not gloomy. It's unfortunate some people don't see it.

What is funny is Yormark came out and said we were close to a deal. Then all the Pac homers came out last week and said that was just talk, and we werent that close. We were still many weeks away. It was all just more smoke from our Guy.There probably has to be some sort of compromise. At the end of the day Washington and Oregon need a home.
I don't think that means real news next week. There was smoke for a couple of weeks that the B12 was close to a deal before it happened. No smoke that the PAC is close yet.
