I taught all of my sons to cook, but they still all rely on takeout way too much because after work they just want to unwind and not bother with cooking and dishes. Restaurant food is loaded with fat and sodium, that’s why it’s tasty. None of them seem to be packing on weight but I don’t want them to need statins when they are 50 either

That's becoming next to impossible.

As someone who travels to Wisconsin frequently, I'm going to call BS on their ranking of 28. People in that state are FAT! You can't drink 24/7 and eat German food (and fast food-Culvers) all day long without putting on the lbs.

Yeah there's another list I've seen that had WI behind Iowa but the % wasn't that different.

There's more of a fitness/recreational activities culture year round in WI that might offset the nothing but beer, brats and sausage group.

I certainly have some weight I’m trying to shed but not a ton. I workout and lift weights 5 days a week, and add in some cardio here and there. I would as I am in good shape, just want to lose a little while also bulking up a bit more. I just love to eat is my problem, any types of food, healthy and unhealthy. I just need to find the right balance of it all. I’m very close.

Not exactly sure.
I actually think it has picked back up in popularity a little. No statistics it just seems like you see more people smoking and vaping then you used to.
Vaping seems to for sure. Vapers are bigger Aholes than smokers. They like to have the cloud of smoke and no issues when they are inline and it’s going right into peoples faces. Smokers usually would look and try to keep the smoke away from people.

It always was sort of a doomsday mindset to engage in something 100% proven to be a detriment to good health.

FACT check: if it’s a vape then the exhaled byproduct is not smoke. That’s the whole point of it.

Maintaining it is the hardest part. Good luck on your journey.

It's anecdotal, but I'm pretty sure these kind of lists are mostly based off "what your state politics are" and/or the health care options in the state. Blue states generally rank, red generally low (with the exception of Utah ranking high and New Mexico ranking low).

I live at the intersection of Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin, and there's no difference on any side of those lines (if anything, Wisconsinites are the fattest), and the states are all kind of in different spots on the list. That said, I don't spend enough time in Minneapolis or Milwaukee either. It does seem that urban populations are thinner as a general rule though.

People are definitely more fit in Colorado and Utah. It's part of the lifestyle. It's pretty obvious there. And people are definitely less fit in Louisiana (again, it's part of the lifestyle). Minnesota? Nah. That's a reflection of having one of the best hospitals in the world I suspect.

I am down 100 pounds from my heaviest. I managed to reach the 200’s this weekend. Roughly 49 pounds to go before re-evaluating my goals. Diet and exercise….who knew?

I am doing my part to help the state of Iowa from getting amy higher on that list…
That has to be liberating, keep up the good work. Im sure it’s a huge relief.

While I admire their intent to assess obesity, their sources are suspect:
Sources: Data used to create this ranking were collected from the U.S. Census Bureau, U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, The Child and Adolescent Health Measurement Initiative, Trust for America's Health, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Gallup, Data Resource Center for Child & Adolescent Health, National Conference of State Legislatures, Centers for Disease Control & Prevention and the Economic Research Service of the United States Department of Agriculture.
I don't know about everyone else, but not one of these sources has my weight. And, if some of these do have my weight, it's clearly a breach of patient privacy. What on earth is going on with our world now?

If you're working out that much and still need to loose, the diet should be an easy fix. Well, in theory anyway.

This is something I definitely believe.

The availability of affordable healthy food in urban areas is a lot higher.
In the future all will live there except for lawless herds of nomads wandering the Chinese owned land.

In my experience and observation of others weight is about 70% tied to what someone eats/drinks and about 30% activity level/exercise. As a culture we like to focus on taking strong active solutions to things, in this case working out frequently or going on a very specific diet. Which leads to the lifestyle changes not being sustainable or the results not coming consistently enough to feel 'worth it.' But for most its about reducing or eliminating some of the habitual things they drink and eat (added sugar, certain types of fats, alcohol, and food additives mostly) and being less sedentary on a daily basis and getting their heart rate up at least a couple times a week.
