What I feel is our first real test comes up tomorrow night. Would love to hear insights from others in this group. UNI comes in 2-0 with ok wins over low caliber teams (much like ISU has). The first over small school St Thomas-Minnesota was a 12 pointer and against St Louis was a 20 point margin. Bofelli is their most consistent player scoring and rebounding. She's a big body 6'1" sophomore. They don't have lots of height so we could cause them problems there. In the last game McDermott (Johnston HS) was the leading scorer with 23. The game against St Louis was close until the third when UNI pulled away. Bofelli is averaging a double-double so far. Their three point shooting was solid as they made 12 out of 34. Free throw shooting not so good. An interesting stat for ISU...UNI committed 20 turnovers.

Who: No. 8 Iowa State (2-0, 0-0 Big 12) vs. UNI (2-0, 0-0 MVC)
Where: McLeod Center. Cedar Falls
When: Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2022 – 6:00 p.m.

I'm planning on being there. I expect a too close game with a Cylone win. If we beat them by 20 I'll believe we might be pretty darn good. (I think we're pretty good but there is a ton of games to get better.)

St. Thomas - MN isn’t a “small school” as of 2022 - they’re Div 1 competing in the Summit League and have very high athletic ambitions for the future. They see themselves as capable of competing at the same level as Marquette or Creighton in the near future, only better because they have football.

Comparatively speaking...they have fewer than 7k student enrollment while UNI is at 12k and 31k for ISU. That is the context from which I was speaking calling them "small."

St Thomas is making the jump from Div 3 to Div 1. I think this is year 2. They are smaller now but expect to grow.

Green was in a boot in the game against St Louis. Bofelli is starting at the four and worked on her 3 pt shooting in off season, requires more work if expected to guard a perimeter player. Like a lot of teams, I think they are trying to play more up tempo. I think they will depend on their starters a lot this yr.

What difference does that make? Just asking on behalf of Wake Forest, Gonzaga, etc. Plus I think the Tommies are sandbagging, as Wiki says their enrollment is 9600 and an article from 2010 indicates 10,500. My youngest was a swimmer at St. Olaf College and he was of the impression UST dwarfed all the other MIAC schools, which is why they were asked to leave!

Obviously it doesn’t matter - just passing time on a cold snowy night with no ISU sports to watch! Carry on and go State!

Point taken! They are def an up and comer. Everything I’ve read about them they’ve made considerable investment in athletics to be competitive sooner rather than later.

It's my understanding official threads are started only on the day of the game. So much so I performed a thorough search of ESPN+ to verify the game is tomorrow.

I was at a function at the McLeod Center tonight. I can confirm there was no basketball game going on :)

Unimportant factoid: UNI hasn't had 12,000 student for quite a while. 9,000 is closer.
Carry on.

someone suggested I turn the preview into the game thread. Prob a bad idea in hindsight. Sorry for the confusion. I promise to never do it again!

Ehhh. no harm, no foul. I would be more concerned if there was no game thread.

Looks like weather is going to hold up to make the trip. Going early enough so we have daylight all the way to Cedar Falls. I was able to hook up @NWICY with my extra tickets. My buddy went all out as I figure he would hook me up with some general admission tickets. He hooked me up with center court 8th row on the side where the team benches are.
