Since this thread is back on the front page, my updated power ranking since most teams have now played a schedule with a bit more substance: (remember these are power rankings, not where I think they’ll finish)

1) Texas - barf
2) Iowa State - name a team below them with better resume
3) Baylor - great win over UCLA
4) KState - undefeated
5) WVU - they’ve dismantled 2 P5 teams
6) TCU - won the ECC without 2 starters. I expect them to rise significantly
7) Kansas must be destroyed
8) OU - won the espn events but is beating Nebraska or Ole Miss much of an accomplishment?
9) TTU - doesn’t look great lately
10) OSU - what have you done for me lately?
Going to have to take a 2nd look at Baylor after getting dismantled by Marquette. They could still end up being a really good team, but clearly not the powerhouse they have been in the last few years.

Keep in mind it was a Big East Challenge game. Our teams always falter in this thing. It needs to end. It's lose-lose for Big 12. Win and it's ho hum, nothing to see here. Lose and it's Big 12 overrated! Our teams just don't get jacked for these games, whereas our opponents give it their all. We play St Johns, how much do you really care? Nothing compared to playing Kansas, Texas, Oklahoma, Baylor or even Iowa.

I don't pay too much attention to one or two games early on. Especially when teams have a lot of new guys. Heck, this game wasn't even early, but look at last year when Kentucky came in to Allen and blew the doors of KU and then KU goes on to win the championship. The Big 12 is still super strong. Baylor's biggest issue to me is their interior. Not having JTT is a big loss. Thamba is their only reliable big.

Augusta National Golf Club
1) Texas
2) Kansas
3) Baylor - still a final 4 caliber roster and coach
4) Iowa State - Great resume to start, winning at Iowa would jump BU
T5) WVU
T5) TCU - Without 2 starters, should go up when healthy
T5) KState - no Q1 wins, too reliant on Johnson and a 5-8 PG who won't hang in the Big 12
T5) TTU - Missing arguably their best player, likely only 1 win in the first three quads before conference play
T9) OU
T9) OSU

I feel like TCU is figuring it out and when they get to full strength they will obviously be even better and are Trending to be back on tier 1 of the conference. I think if I had to pick today we will be 9-9 in conference which should be enough to get us in. I think the middle to back half of the league might be a little bit weaker this year.

TCU will be a scary team but can lose any time probably.

I don’t put much value on pre-conference home court wins. Plus the consistently good programs like Michigan State, Kansas, etc. lose some early games against tough opponents while they experiment to find out what their 7 or 8 man rotation will look like when they hit the meat of their schedule. Lots of chatter about Gonzaga being down this year but Mark Few is following this pattern I suspect. We will find out about ISU against St.John’s at Home and Iowa on the road. Right now in the B12 Texas looks good, OSU looks weak and the rest can be placed in any order. Always good to have Surly start a discussion and btw I have coached against Heelan in their gym, definitely a home field advantage as I recall.
