when your QB gets his first start vs Tom Brady but your wife bought tickets to Disney on Ice at the same time...

Not knowing what he can do is not the same as upside. Baker isn't a great QB, but he's got a ton more starting experience than Brock. He's been to the playoffs. Those things do count for something.

That said, Purdy knows the offense better, and clearly has the locker room on his side.

It boils down to this. If they keep winning and he keeps looking decent, he'll be fine, but make no mistake, this is a team in win now mode. They are playing for this year. If Purdy starts to falter, the reins may be pretty short.
QB isn't a plug-and-play position. Unless the QB has very recent experience in the OC or HC's system, it's not like a WR/RB/TE where you can install a set package of 10 or 15 plays for them in week 1. Bringing in a outside QB would severely limit the playbook across the board.

That said, it wouldn't surprise me if the 49ers were kicking the tires on a few QBs just in case Purdy doesn't work out. I'd be surprised if he doesn't get the start this week, at the very least.

Oh, he'll for sure get the start this week. And assuming he doesn't look completely overwhelmed, he won't get the hook.

Any team that has a starter go down is going to be looking around to see who's available. Just simple business. Need a backup to your backup and most teams aren't keeping 3QBs around unless they need to.

Thought I saw where the 49s were grabbing somebody off Denver's practice team?

Yeah, they've gotta have two who can step in just in case this week, plus probably another on the practice squad. They're going to bring someone else in, but unlikely to start the next two weeks unless Purdy looks way out of his depth.

Yeah Josh Johnson. He's a journeyman. If he gets in the game, it's because Brock is really struggling. He's not a threat to take the starting job from him though.

They got an old-timer from the practice squad, IIRC. Probably need to grab another guy and get him on the practice squad immediately to start learning the offense as an emergency back up.

Purdy has take substantially more reps vs high leve competition than Trey Lance. He may not have the upside, but his flow is likey higher than Lance.

Looks like a new design opportunity for a CF Store Legends shirt
Exactly what I was thinking. I'm picturing a big rooster on the front of the t-shirt with "BIG **** BROCK" right below it. Bet it would sell like hotcakes.
