If a majority of teams vote to dissolve the conference, thus cancelling the GoR.

No one knows that this is how it works. There would immediately be massive lawsuits over this.

So many people (not just calling out quoted poster) keep saying this like it is the most well settled legal principle. The truth is nobody really knows for sure and the lawyers are advising presidents, regents etc. of the risks involved in doing anything to try to get out early.

B1G ain't getting $90 mill just from its FOX/NBC/CBS media deal. That'll end up coming in at around $70-$72 mill per school after the first few years. The projections of $90-$100 mill include all the other stuff, or maybe all the other stuff minus the expanded playoff $$$.
"The payout will increase slightly in the second year of the deal before it jumps to roughly $100 million per school, annually, starting in 2025. That's based purely on the media deal and does not include revenue from making the College Football Playoff, bowl games or NCAA Tournament."

That doesn't seem right. There are plenty of other reports saying the B1G expects to distribute $80-100M per school, all in. Here is just one example: https://www.espn.com/college-footba...-7-billion-media-rights-agreement-fox-cbs-nbc

That is in line with the "one billion dollars per year" talking point associated with their latest media rights deal, which shakes out to $62.5M when split 16 ways.

Maybe the Sporting News report misunderstood that the projections do not include CFP money coming from a 12-team CFP, since no one yet knows what that money will look like.

It would not surprise me to see the B1G and SEC exceed $100M per school including lucrative money from the 12-team CFP, while the Big 12, Pac-12, and ACC are hanging around near $50M. I have no idea what this sport starts to look like when Rutgers and Mississippi State are clearing $50M more per year than Washington or Oklahoma State or even Clemson, at least for the next decade.

Yeah I've seen that article, citing Action Network with that reference but I don't think they're correct. Distributing $100 mill/year annually to 16 B1G schools would amount to $1.6 billion/year. If they're saying that's just from the FOX/NBC/CBS deal, that would make the value of that deal over $11 billion. Nowhere have I seen that pricetag, it's always reported as $7-$8 billion. The article you link has a table that lists the deal at $1 billion/year. There's no way to make that add up to $100 mill/year for 16 schools.

I don't know, it's all in the phrasing. Instead of jumping for a mere $10M, how about jumping for a 20% increase in revenue? I don't know about you, but I'd like a 20% raise in this economy right now.
It's like arguing about having too much fun, or a girl is too pretty.

Exposure should definitely be a concern. Obviously cord cutting is a thing, but I still don't think we are at the point yet where you don't want to have multiple games on OTA TV. I have ESPN+ and still hate it when our games are on there.

I look at the Chicago Cubs. There is a reason they became so popular in the Midwest. It's because if you had basic cable, you had every Cubs game. Hell, my grandfather wasn't even a baseball fan when he retired. 10 years later, when I graduated High School, he was a die-hard Cubs fan because he used to watch their games every day. I remember at first he said, "Well, it's better than Soap Operas" but he ended up becoming a true fan of the Cubs.

Huge news out of ESPN’s parent company Disney. The current CEO stepped down and his predecessor is returning effective immediately.

This proves that the writers don’t check details much. It says we will be 50MM due to the expanded CFP after it says roughly 32MM from this media rights agreement. No, we are 50MM due to medias, current CFP, bowls, NCAA tourney and everything. Expanded CFP would be added.
Agree...seems to be narrowing in on about a $10M/yr difference between the Big 12 (more) and Pac (less). Do the 4 corner teams jump? What does Washington and Oregon do? Still plenty of movement to come...

Not exactly sure.

I would say at this point, we don’t want them to jump. Let a new school or two get established as the top of the conference, then go after them at the next contract.

I would think that the Big 12 would prefer that. To me the biggest stumbling block remains Washington and Oregon. Will they be fine sitting on $45M for the next 6 years while others like USC and UCLA get north of $100M? If they stay, are they fine with equal sharing or do they insist on additional shares? How much more than $50M a year does a program require? Lot's of questions still out there...

People write a lot of numbers that haven't been proofed, like $100 million. What does that even mean, just the B10's TV haul? Or $50 million for the P12. Where'd that come from?

Pretty sure the B1G's $100 mill/year figure that will reportedly kick in after the first 2-3 years includes FOX/NBC/CBS media deal and everything else except the extra $$$ that's TBD from the expanded playoff. There were some inaccurate reports out there that said the $100 mill would be just from the media deal but I'm still trying to figure out how $100 mill/year X 16 schools X 7 years = $8 bill.
