He's athletic as hell but watch Eli shoot 3's in warmups and you'll see why he's not playing (yet).
Good call. His stroke from 3 and at the line today looked brutal.
Hopefully his handle improves with time. Good for him to get some looks though.
He's only touching the ball in garbage time with no game rhythm at all but I guess I'm not seeing the loose handles and if that's a point of contention, Gabe and Holmes should probably never touch the ball. Neither of them is going to get confused with Monte.

I'm not saying the kid should start but I don't understand the complete lack of usage, even in mop up time. No Grill today, up 20+most of the 2nd half, and instead of throwing him a bone and giving him 8 or 10 minutes to see how he responds or if the game slows down for him, we leave Gabe out there for 40, and Holmes for 32. With Grill coming back and other minutes going to T. King, today was probably it for Eli. Such is the world of B12 basketball.

Yeah, don’t really understand playing gabe 40 and that was scary with kunc in 35 point lead time. Just don’t get it.

So you didn't see him almost lose control of the ball just dribbling it?

Per his stroke: I'm not sure he gets that shot off in a normal game situation. That's not exactly a quick release.

I can see putting him at the 4 minute mark or something but with how this team goes in to lulls, him just getting a bunch of time doesn't make sense.

Hopefully the next two are bigger blow outs so he does get more time.

People are acting like he's the missing link to something bigger for ISU and it's weird.

He was at the scorer's table to check in at 3:49 but had to wait until under 3:00 for a stoppage of action.

Lol- he makes 1 three in garbage time and you’re quoting posts as if something has been proven? I’m 100% rooting for the kid- just stated my observation from what I see.

It's like the polar opposite of the annual scapegoat for anything bad.

There's this mythical world where both Kings are going to turn ISU into Slamma Jamma.

Glad he got some time but I don't think it proved anything. TJ and staff get to see him the most and are apparently very straightforward with players and he seems engaged on the bench so nothing to worry about at this point.

Because TJ and the coaches are idiots and miss obvious things that fans posting on boards are easily able to see? I think not.
The announcers made it sound like he could get his buckets against anybody.

So how do you go from that to, not given a chance with a team that shoots this bad?

We won by 37 with him in the final 3 minutes, not sure even Eli could have blown a lead like that against this team by coming in with under 10 in. How'd it have looked if Kunc, who put a scare in us with the throat chop flagrant, had a season ender or Gabe, who went 40?

Announcers are uninformed about people all the time. Their little notes said he scored a lot of points in high school and they needed someone to talk about.

Are people seriously criticizing TJ for not playing someone more based on ESPN+ announcers?

This year is about developing Eli in practice. He clearly does not have the handles or the defensive ability to play serious minutes right now and it's easier to build the habits needed in a controlled environment than a game.

What was the lead at the 10 minute mark?
Kunc can't injured at any other time of the game?

Perhaps there's a reason they played the guys so long since they got rolled a few days earlier?

Yeah, that's not it for me, but I do have a "link" stuck in my head and it's been there since we first were named frontrunner to sign Eli King. He's from Caledonia in SE MN, a stone's throw from La Crosse. Other than the receding hairline, I had him visualized as a more athletic Matt Thomas clone!

Fans just want to see highly touted recruits play, more so when he's competing for minutes with mercurial performers like Kalschuer & Grill. Give the kid some run T.J.!

When we signed this recruiting class I thought Eli would be the most ready to play based on his high school highlights. But I also assumed he would play off the ball much like Grill. Personally, I was hoping he would enter the game yesterday at about the 10 minute mark and play off the ball with Lipsey still at the point. Eli seems fully engaged on the bench. The situation just seems odd to me.

I had to go back and look because I didn't remember him almost losing the ball on his own. I saw it get poked away by a defender with about 30 seconds left. Is that what you're referring to? I guess you can say that shouldn't happen, but it's not like he just dribbled it off his foot in the backcourt. It's pretty tough to judge either way in mop up time when he's being told not to go toward the basket.

I've never been one to spend much time analyzing shots. They can shoot it granny style for all I care, as long as it goes in. I didn't see anything in his very limited game time to tell me his shot is the problem, which you stated is the reason why he's not playing.

AGAIN, I'm not saying Eli should be starting or getting 20+ minutes a game and I don't think we magically turn into early '90s UNLV if he plays more, but I don't think it's that unnatural for some fans to wonder why a kid that was a 3/4* recruit with other high major offers is getting the same minutes as the guy who was a backup qb for Kansas a year ago.

More to the point for me, if he's that far behind (most likely on defense if we know anything about TJ) I don't understand why we blew a year of eligibility for 10 total minutes of game time.

Is he from Caledonia MN?

If so, that's very near Beaver Creek Valley state park & the only water-powered mill in Minnesota!
Yes that is the place. When the announcers were talking about Eliand his 1600 some points scored in his basketball puts him third behind his two brothers at Caledonia they failed to mention he did not play at all his junior year because of injury.

When ISU gets way behind like they did against UConn and Iowa, why not put Eli in there? It appears obvious he is by far our best shooter.
Yeah...He looks real good in warm up before games. Too bad TJ is in the locker room and doesn't see it. 1670847923924.png
