Super concerning for ISU if it's true he was a post player in high school. Those small level high school 'bigs' don't usually pan out at the power 5 level. Super concerning if he can't shoot. People love to rag on Caleb and especially Gabe for poor shooting, well guess what, the next man in probably is worse.
He wasn't a post. He was a point/combo guard who made his living getting to the paint and finishing at or around the rim.

And people don't "rag" on Caleb and especially Gabe for poor shooting, they do it because they're wildly inconsistent and you have no idea which player is going to show up on the offensive end of the floor from one night to the next. Fortunately for them, TJ trusts experience and what they may lack on offense, they make up for with defensive intensity.

Every time I open CyFan I can't believe that this thread is still going strong
There is a thread about Iowa basketball that is almost always on the front page that's 3+ years old. I'm not surprised a thread about a guy on this year's roster has lasted 2 weeks. It'll be here until he plays or transfers.

what is his reputation coming in? Was he really that prolific of a shooter at Caldonia?

16 games played he was 3-18 from 3 his senior year. 16.7%

I found that site as well when I was trying to locate MN high school stats, doesn't make much sense unfortunately. Iowa has an awesome statistics portal for HS games/players all the way back to 2006. I haven't had luck finding something like that for Minnesota but from the newspaper articles I've seen about Eli it doesn't seem he shot many 3's; one clip said in his final game he scored 30+ points with 0 shots from deep.

Not saying anyone on here really knows how Eli will develop or pan out. And we know there's alot more to offense than just the 'three ball'. But it is interesting to see a guy who was a '4-star' have trouble getting a few minutes. Maybe down the road we can relish in a most improved player thread.

One thing that could be developing in college bb is the threat of one and done players such as Suggs and Holmgren for example coming in and moving on up. I think we can all agree that if Suggs had stayed at Gonzaga the National title was more likely to happen. You think Holmgren or Suggs would have moved on to the NBA if they had sat on the bench for 3/4 of the season freshman year? Probably not!

My opinion- King will be a decent player by his junior year. Needs time to develop. At his size he needs great ball handling skills, passing skills and a three point shot. Because he can dunk in HS does not make him a great B12 athlete. No way he should be in the rotation at this point. I hope he stays because I think he can contribute in the future.
We have 4th and 5th year guards, all with various limitations and skills. TJ has every incentive to put his best guys on the floor and try to win. Trust TJ.
So he should play then, right?

Just kidding! Great post!

For some players playing in the B12 is a step down from previous opponents.
Not sure what you mean by this. There is a lot of data out there supporting that the Big 12 has been the best conference in the sport for the past 3 years or so.
