If I remember from very early in this thread (not going to search for it) someone's wife left their garage door open during a decent snow storm and wind causing the snow to drift inside the garage. Probably a good reminder for the rest of us...

This seems like one of those storms where nobody really has a clue. Either it will be a total bust, or we'll get 20 inches.
Banking on bust. We may have a bad wind chill Thursday, but I don’t expect even 6 inches of snow in the metro.

This is going to be a bust isn’t it?

Yes, but credit to the weather peeps on this thread (local TV too) for keeping things in perspective. "Historic", "Once in a generation", "Worst Ever" were just some of the terms used by national media to overhype this storm.

It's gonna snow and then blow really hard. Or what we call a normal Iowa winter blizzard.

Context matters. When national media talks about the storm in grandiose terms, they aren't specifically talking about what we're going to see in Iowa. We aren't going to see the worst of it.

Channel 13 just ran their updated model. Basically no snow after 8am Thursday. Going to depend how much drops Wednesday evening and night.

To be fair, I think one of the reasons they are really emphasizing it is that almost everyone was planning on traveling Thursday and Friday. It seems like this is an instance where they really want to make sure people are aware.

That would be good for me. I would like to head to my parents' farm in NE Iowa on Saturday. Obviously, if it stops snowing early Thursday, hopefully by Saturday it will be finished blowing around.

On this date 14 years ago the almost exact type of storm blew into Iowa.

What made it probably worse than the upcoming storm was there was already a good snow cover over much of the state, so even though the storm itself only produced 2-4 inches........the 50mph winds had a lot more material to work with.

Also had the 30-40 below wind chill.
