Then it would be best to negotiate a buyout. Put a big 12 team in the playoffs that is not OuT. Worst would be for them to get in and make a little noise. Best to keep them pretty irrelevant
I agree. I had been in the "make them stay against their will no matter what" camp, but now I'm all for getting the timing lined up for all the major changes (conference alignment, playoffs). It just makes sense.

Having said that, I wouldn't sign off on them leaving early unless the conference benefits in some additional ways besides just getting rid of them and getting the timing lined up. I still want compensation from them.

Yormark really seems to stress financials, based on his comments on only adding teams that financially improve the conference. He doesn’t seem to be a person who’s going to let them go without fair compensation.

Probably not, you'd need some reason to suspend them, like an SMU death penalty type of event. But even then, it'd only be in a single sport.

If you suspended them for no reason, then we'd probably be breaking the contract between the school and the Big12. I'm saying this not knowing what legal stuff is in place between the schools and conference, but generally, I'd assume that schools will participate in the conference and in return, the Big 12 organizes events and handles the business side of NCAA sports. In big general terms, that's probably the agreement in place.
I doubt it would be very hard to come up with a legitimate reason for either of these programs.

Has anyone heard what the the Big12 distribution will be the next two years? (for arguments sake with the assumption that OuT stay those years) Will the '23/'24 the same total as the old contract but just split 14 ways instead of 10? Or was there a stipulation that would increase the price if Big12 expanded?

I guess the new 4 schools will probably take a few years to get up to full shares, has anyone seen anything specific about how that will be structured?

I think the newbies don't get full shares til the new contract, but they really don't care because even a half share destroys their current AAC distribution.

Nope, not buying that ISU’s football program is worth more than Ohio State.

Texas just signed four 5 star recruits and eleven 4 star. There is one school that loves all the new landscape of portal and NIL!!! I'd say we beat them 3 years in a row just in time. They will spend their way back to the top.

I’ve said since the beginning that Sark has a legit chance there as he’s trying first to tackle the culture issues. Having tough nosed guys like Bijan help that cause. His next battle is making sure these studs they bring in March that intended culture.

I despise Texas, but I like Sark. I would have been happy with him taking over for Coach Saban when he retires, but he probably didn't think the old man would step down anytime soon.

Sark seems to over-coach at times, throwing stuff out there when he should be running it down their throat. He's a bit over .500 and 9-9 in B12 play after year two. Years three and four will tell the story more clearly as he brings his recruits into starting roles across the lineup.

Admittedly, I haven't dug into the contractual situations with regard to booting OU and UT, but what I don't understand is why either one has a leg to stand on when it comes to their buy-outs. ESPN holds the TV rights for both leagues, so ESPN pays them (through their respective leagues) either way and they probably get more in the SEC (don't know how their contract works with expansion). Seems to me that if they wan to leave bad enough, they can take some of the extra money they get in the SEC and pay their way out of the Big12. What am I missing?

The Big 12's media rights are split between ESPN and Fox. Both of those schools leaving would hurt Fox as they would no longer be able to select their games to show, and thus, loose revenue. So Fox would need to be compensated in some way to let both of these schools leave early.

The 18 month notice to leave for 2023-24 is the end of this week. We should know by Sunday morning, but I have my doubts they’re going anywhere.

I assume this is some 18 month notice per the conference bylaws? Has this been reported anywhere as a key date? It seems pointless to me because with the GoR, it’s either going to be a negotiated exit or Texas and OU will lose a TON of money and allow the Big 12 to own their media rights the first year in SEC. And if it’s a negotiated exit, the official notice date can be negotiated away as well.
