Husband got like 4 pairs for Xmas. I also do their mid calf in varying thickness and then a few ankle for ankle boots/shoes.
Going to the gym 4-5 mornings a week I go with no show and get home and it’s slippers with no socks. Summers it predominantly Chaco sandals all the time except for mowing the yard in a pair of old gym shoes.
Much of my Christmas List is stuff I can just go buy myself when needed. Anything I really want is either too expensive to ask for (exotic car driving experience or racing school) or not realistic (some ******* alone time...). So I keep a list of inexpensive items on hand for when people need birthday and Christmas ideas. Hence, socks. Or any of a million different little carpentry or mechanics accessories. If I really needed something in a pinch I'd just buy it and take it off the list. But without a list I'd just get more t-shirts with cringy "dad-isms." The one I got this year from my wife's aunt says "sometimes when I'm feeling feisty I'll only measure once." That **** immediately gets relegated to the yardwork/gym drawer.
I have calves the size of some people's thighs. Mid-calf socks stay up for about 5 seconds.
totally circumstantial for me. generally broken down into 3 categories:
work: mid-calf. either for dress shoes or steel toes
running/ working out: ankle/ quarter. not a fan of low/ no show as they feel like they slide down too much
casual: no socks.

I’ve worn black under armor ankle socks for probably ten years. Before that was adidas and some other brands/colors sprinkled in. I have long chiefs/cyclones/wool socks I wear to games, but other than that ankle all day every day.
I have a brother in law that worked for smartwool so I have a pile of good socks. This Christmas he gave me some darn tough socks. I looked at him confused and said what about smartwool? He said all those kinds of socks that style are made in the same place, they just change the name. Bombas, darn tough, smartwool, and many others are the same socks.
Same here. Any good sock recommendations? I've gone through a lot of different brands
They are way freaking expensive but darn tough are good watch REI they occasionally have a 20 or 25% off sale.
Weird, Bombas doesn't show as being made in the U.S. Darn Tough says they are made in Vermont. Smart Wool says Tennessee and North Carolina.
