Sam Mack make any lists?

Aside from him robbing Burger King and being kicked off the team, he actually had a productive time on the court in Ames. Transferred to Arizona State, never played a game because of an alleged sexual assault on campus. Later transferred to the University of Houston where he absolutely killed it. Had a 10 year NBA career, which was very surprising. I wouldn’t call that a bust.

I thought it was check fraud at ASU? I can't think of a bigger "bust" connected to ISU basketball.

Relax man. It’s a message board. I thought it would be a good topic to chat about on Winter night. You act like I just committed a felony..

Look, whether it's fair or not, you've built up a reputation over the years of being a quasi-troll, and one to be negative about ISU more often than not. This compliments some of your more outlandish predictions; like when you predicted us to lose to North Carolina Central is a 14 over 3 upset back in 2014.

He didn’t get kicked off the team. He transferred to ASU. I lost all my respect for coach Orr when he testified on behalf of Mack and allowed him to come back to the team.

I tend to be negative at times, and you are correct about the NC Central prediction. Sometimes bad things happen with Iowa State athletics, to which I’m pointing that out. Would you rather I polish those turds?

Johnny Orr never renewed his scholarship after that. He later found a home with former colleague Bill Frieder—which obviously never worked out. Back then transferring was unheard of.

You seemed a bit confused as to why this thread was getting the reaction it did. I am simply explaining why it got that reaction. Doesn't have much to do with "polishing turds".

It is very strange timing to start it right after a big conference road win.

Orr’s testimony played a big part on the jury’s verdict. Without Orr‘s testimony, Mack likely would had received guilty verdict and the alleged sexual assault and fraudulent use of credit card at ASU wouldn’t happen. Found this old LA Times article. https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-1991-12-06-sp-682-story.html

I entered ISU in 1981, just as Johnny was starting to gain some momentum. The big name recruit in 1983 was John Culbertson, a 6’9 center from Oak Hill Academy, via Chicago. He barely played as a freshman and transferred. We had Slinging Sammy Hill as the less touted center in the same recruiting class, which minimized the Culbertson swing and miss in later years. If I remember correctly, JC played out his career at NIU. I just remember Orr cackling about Culbertson at a Jasper County Cyclone Club banquet over the winter of 1983 - he was the missing piece to the Stevens / Hornacek team, the inside presence who would take us to the tournament!
