Slightly related to this thread... How long does it take for vehicles to enter the used car market? I.E. - when would we start seeing 2025 Ford Maverick Hybrid AWD trucks in the used market? I really want one but refuse to take the new car depreciation hit.

It might take some time. There is such a ridiculous demand for them right now and Ford is by no means prepared to manufacture enough of these. IMO, dealers will only receive the inventory if they are sold orders. And it wouldn’t shock me if Ford employs the same practice for these as they did with previous generations, and put the majority of efforts into the commercial inventory to satisfy their fleet companies first. I would probably say a year from now you’ll start seeing used ones, but they will probably still be priced within 5-12% of new sticker prices

Not exactly sure.
Also a point to keep in mind here is that Iowa has a $130 surcharge for BEVs on the annual registration to offset for the fuel tax losses. So it will automatically be more to register a BEV than another gas vehicle in the same class/price point.
130 would equate to 13000 miles of driving at 30 mpg.

Recently joined the EV club with a mustang mach e.

So far I am very pleased. Great acceleration, good handling. QUIET

I find myself going very fast without intending to because of the lack of mechanical noise I associate with speed.

Chances are good that whatever savings I might realize will be spent on speeding tickets.

Which model/range do you have?

$56,215 on the first page. It looks to me like resale is what's killing the Lightning.
Resale is rough on most the the BEVs. You can find a Rivian R1T with like 15k miles on it for at least $25k-$30k off of msrp without looking too hard. Right now my commute is like 8 miles a day so gas vs electric is hard to justify electric just on fuel cost savings but I had a head hunter call me about a job last week that would have been a 45 minute commute one way. I was mathing out the cost per mile and figured I'd save about $50 a week trading in on a Lightning or a Rivian. I didn't take it very far because the salary was pretty low and as much as I like to complain about leadership around here they pay us pretty damn good.

Last year I spent $350 in routine maintenance on the Kia, and zero on the Tesla. I spent like $5 on windshield fluid for the Tesla, when did that become so expensive?

That made me chuckle. I have that reaction on most items that are only periodic or occasional purchases. I do a lot off "I remember that as $ and now it's $$?"

The Ford Lightning might be the best tailgating vehicle on the market. Plenty of room in here for ice, and I can close the “cooler” lid, and haul my golf clubs on top, still in the frunk

Yes, by the time football season rolls around, these will be Ames Lager's

I'm sure I will word this poorly: when researching for EVs in hot temps like Houston, it sounds like many older batteries were not liquid cooled at all. What wording, to term would it be best to look for when researching EVs that have a battery with some kind of cooling technology?

If my family does go the EV route, we would most likely use it for a daily in city commuter (10-30 miles a day on average) and charge in a garage. This being the Houston area, said garage is likely 85-90 degrees at night.
