I think KSU caught a break with the Texas debacle and catching Baylor in the midst of a slide. I think they are a very good basketball team, but Texas isn't the same since the Beard debacle (though their is a chance they could get worse as the season goes on because of it).
We are bound to have some clunkers but I think the odds of them happening like they did last season, or even to the degree of the Iowa game are fairly small for a couple of reasons. The first is Lipsey, and his continued handling of the offense. The second is shot selection; as a team we have made excellent decisions on the offensive end of the floor. Third is defense. While we were a good defensive team last year this year's team is simply better and cleaner at it. I thought we got away with a lot of bodying at times and while we sometimes ride/body 10 feet beyond the arc, and put up stupid fouls from it, we aren't doing it to the degree we were last season. The 4th is we have more (and consistent) offensive contributors. Grill is more consistent, as is Kalscheur, Lipsey distributes and gets to the lane, Osun is an athletic. pick and roll lane presensce we didn't have, while King, Jones, and Kunc can give us buckets.
All things considered I think shot selection, as well as making front ends of 1 and 1s, are keys to our continued success. Shot selection gives us two things: a higher probability of scoring and a reduced probability of yielding transition buckets. TCU was most problematic when they were able to get out in transition and I think the consistent reduction of such opportunities is critical to our success.
