You know before the season I thought he might see the same amount of PT as Lipsey. After watching him in warmups. I don’t think he’ll see a “Naz” type of future. I hope I’m wrong.
No offense, but this board was full of the same attitude about Naz his freshman year. Some people take longer to adjust. It is WAY too early to write him off!
How many people completely wrote off Grill his first go round here and were convinced they were right when he left? I'm glad he has come back and proven us wrong!
So are you a family member or friend of Eli’s? Literally all of your posts here are defending him.Yah it's tough to "show" anything when he enters the game with 3 min left up by 30. Basically there to kill the clock. Shooting 50% from 3 with the slow shot. You're right on with potential is there. Be blind not to see it. Who knows it may be here maybe somewhere else.
While you’re not wrong, trying to write off a true freshman as not good because he doesn’t play on a top 15 team in the nation is insanely stupid. This board is also full of people who are overly optimistic when things aren’t going to work. SDW, T-Lew, Zion Griffin, Simeon Carter just to name a few, didn’t pan out. King could easily be one of those guys. Not every guy is cut out for P6 basketball and that’s fine.
For every 1 guy that works out after having a rough start to his college career, there are 10 who don’t.
Pointing out the 2 guys at ISU that made it work in recent memory is cherry picking at its finest.
Cherry picking? I don't come here to argue, that's a HUGE waste of time. I'm saying the kid is 15 games into his career. IN MY OPINION, it's too early to label him a mistake or a failure at this level. That's the last I'm going to say about it.This board is also full of people who are overly optimistic when things aren’t going to work. Yes that' s why Stanford Iowa MN, ISU, Mizzou, Marquette offered in BB and Notre Dame, Stanford, Mn, Iowa Mizzou and more offered him in Football. Have you watched any tape on the kid? Obviously not. Oh wait you saw him throwing the ball out to others in warm ups. Oh yah that tell tale warm up pass. lol Tape doesn't lie. Go watch the AAU game he played against the highest level D1 players. Lipsey was on the team. I'd say judge what's on tape against High level D1 players before writing the kid off. This board is also full of people who are overly optimistic when things aren’t going to work. I’d also LOVE to know whose minutes he should be taking lol.Cherry picking? I don't come here to argue, that's a HUGE waste of time. I'm saying the kid is 15 games into his career. I have relatives that watched him play in the Lacrosse wi area. Played against Jalen Suggs, Chet Holmgen Johhny Davis and did quite well. I'm going off of what they tell me. And I actually have watched a few of his AAU & his game against Watson who had 5 other D1 guys on his team. Eli's team beat them, coming from 20 down at half. Just saying done a small amount of research; and wouldn't write the kid off.So are you a family member or friend of Eli’s? Literally all of your posts here are defending him.
Ok, he’s athletic. Got it. But if he’s as good as you are making him sound, why is Watson playing and King is sitting on the bench? They are competing for the same minutes.Yes that' s why Stanford Iowa MN, ISU, Mizzou, Marquette offered in BB and Notre Dame, Stanford, Mn, Iowa Mizzou and more offered him in Football. I actually thought he looked ok tonight…for what you might expect out of a typical freshman anyway. Not sure if you remember, but Naz was absolutely clueless out there his freshman year. You know before the season I thought he might see the same amount of PT as Lipsey. After watching him in warmups. I don’t think he’ll see a “Naz” type of future. I hope I’m wrong.
Georges, Monte, Halliburton and Lipsey have spoiled us for freshmen expectations. They are the exception vs the rule.No offense, but this board was full of the same attitude about Naz his freshman year. Some people take longer to adjust. It is WAY too early to write him off!

So whose minutes should he be taking? I’d agree with your sentiment if this were a poor team but we’re a top 15 team in the country (maybe even top 10). There’s a finite amount of playing time and he’s behind a potential freshman of the year PG, and 3 senior guards.Ok, he’s athletic. Got it. But if he’s as good as you are making him sound, why is Watson playing and King is sitting on the bench? They are competing for the same minutes.
I’m not writing him off, but it’s not a good sign for him if he isn’t seeing the floor this year AT ALL based on who is projected to come back from this current team next year and who is coming in. It’s more realistic, based on averages, it doesn’t work out. If he proves me wrong, great.
Naz is really the only player recently at ISU recently that didn’t play at all as a freshman that made any major impact later in on his career. Its not wrong to say that rarely happens in college basketball.
Matt Thomas played plenty his freshman year. It didn't go very well though. But it got rolling Jr and then overdrive Sr year.Ok, he’s athletic. Got it. But if he’s as good as you are making him sound, why is Watson playing and King is sitting on the bench? They are competing for the same minutes.

Exactly. And before anyone says “well Grill actually played” he was playing on horrible teams.Maybe ditch the Naz comparison and go with a path similar to Grill.
I mean almost by definition most freshmen will not become all conference players…most won’t even become starters. I don’t think it’s a bad quality for the fanbase to not write off freshmen halfway through their first year…This board is also full of people who are overly optimistic when things aren’t going to work. Even Matt Thomas. Matt played as an underclassman…but he wasn’t really very good until he was a junior. Scott Christopherson came on strong as a junior too.Maybe ditch the Naz comparison and go with a path similar to Grill.
And by all accounts he looks to be an engaged, supportive and enthusiastic teammate that's doing the most with the opportunities he's being given.I mean almost by definition most freshmen will not become all conference players…most won’t even become starters. i think you missed my point. If a kid doesn’t play at all his freshman year, odds aren’t great for him to break in on that team in a significant way. Matt started almost half the games his freshman year and played 20 min/game, Caleb played 15 min/game his freshman year. Other than Naz, can you name a player who played less than half their games their freshman year (he averaged only 7 mpg in 18 games), not due to injury, and contributed to that same team later on in their career? I can’t really think of that happening. It’s rare.Matt Thomas played plenty his freshman year. It didn't go very well though. But it got rolling Jr and then overdrive Sr year.
