Agree on personal accomplishments from our OL.

I'd settle for a well-functioning, fundamentally solid 5 players vs. individual accomplishments.

I can't remember the exact #, but we have something like 17 returning scholarship O-Lineman next year. Hopefully, Clanton and S&C staff can develop a solid Big 12 unit from those guys.

That is my hope for next season; more consistent and fundamental play from the o-line. An average run-game would be a significant improvement.

Does anyone even know who our main ST’s coach has been since Houston left? We are having more overturn on this staff than usual this year, there’s a chance said coach or GA will no longer be here. Also this last season was our first year having a ST’s analyst, and other than kicking our ST’s progressed throughout the year. It’s not like he could actually be on the practice field coaching them either. Maybe with allegedly Nate having more control of the offense than what Manning had, CMC will have more time to focus on ST’s with this guidance of his analyst, and whatever other coaches we bring on.

Louisiana had great special teams again today in their bowl game. They really know how to block for punt and kickoff returns. So helpful for field position. Seems like we lead the nation every year in poor starting field position. Maybe once or twice a season are we able to drive 90+ yards for a TD. Against Iowa, but any others? Not a good formula for success.

3, I believe. One defensive and two offensive.
Don’t be surprised if we only hire a QB coach and a RB coach and Broomfield takes over as the secondary’s coach, coaching both safeties and CBs, or Heacock coaches the safeties and Broomfield coaches the CBs (or vice versa), filling that third vacancy with a coach some don’t find necessary

Great addition. We have officially moved on from Manning. When Manning left in 2018 then Myers was elevated to OL Coach. Manning 3 TE stuff worked when it was new and innovative. And we had 3 very good TE’s. Time to part ways. Optimistic going forward.

John Bonamego was hired to lead STs after the 2021 season and if he remains on the staff, I doubt a new ST coach will be hired who can also be on the road recruiting (I presume Bonamego won't do that given his background).

STs (especially kick coverage) did improve last season with his hire with the obvious exception of place kicking and that was more personnel related than coaching related, especially after Cole Becker decommitted and the staff got caught without better FG kicker options.

Ryan Clanton is expected to be named Iowa State's newest offensive line coach. Guy has an insanely positive resume.

I hope it makes a difference.

But as an ISU fan, why not? I expect 7 or 8 wins out of ISU next year.
IMO 2018-2021 was what ISU should be under Matt Campbell. Going 4-8 this past season was the perfect storm.
  • Dekkers is back and should be better year 2.
  • A healthy Brock and Norton along with the addition of Harris should be a positive for the RB group.
  • A new OC, OL and QB Coach will hopefully light a spark with our offense.
  • If our defense is close to last year, then I like our chances in 2023.
I think these are good points. We can go bowling next year, with some caveats:

- OL has to take a strong jump forward. Like from a D+ to a B- level jump. I am excited to see what guys like Hasert, Maro and Hunter Deyo can do. I know Remsberg can play b/c he was moving people in the year we won the Fiesta. Miller has been inconsistent, Simmons has been lazy and inconsistent. Hufford to me is a solid player.
- RB: call me too critical but I have seen enough of J Brock. Give me a backfield of Norton and Harris please, they have higher upside plain and simple.
- Playcalling: total overhaul is needed. We need to completely scrap the plays where we drag a full back from one side to the other, (tipping off the play to the other teams D), and then running that side. I think our OL would have looked better last year had our running plays not been oh so predictable.
- WR: similar to the OL, total overhaul. Need to get fresh blood in there who can make plays like Greg Gaines, Jason Essex, and others. Hannika should be a focus point of the offense as he makes clutch plays. I also liked Dmitri Stanley at times he has burner speed. Noel is to me on thin ice to start, he had drops last year, looked soft, and didn't make people miss. His YAC frankly stunk. He also stunk on special teams.
- QB: it's Hunter's job. Now if he struggles in non conf it is time to consider Becht. Becht looks like he has a similar build and skill set to Purdy.

I know John was hired as an analyst, he’s not a coach on the field during practice or games though.

Disagree on J Brock. He was clearly our best RB when he was healthy.

I will look forward to our guards not immediately backpedaling 5 yards in some sort of weird combine backward run speed contest on every pass play....with no contact. It was bizarre the last half of the season.

Maybe those were run plays I kept seeing the back-pedaling?
Cool to have a doppleganger of Lars Ulrich on the staff.

Agree Brock was best- and not even close. Excited to see what Harris can do. Norton is super slow to hit holes.

Disagree on J Brock. He was clearly our best RB when he was healthy.

As Cyclone fans we were spoiled with Montgomery and Hall. Those are 2 guys who were starter level NFL RB's while they played for the Cyclones.

In 2023 I look for a RB group that shares carries. Both Brock & Norton are physical backs, who seem like one-cut backs. Guys who would benefit from an OL upgrade. Hopefully, Harris or Sanders can be the back who has some juke & elite speed to their game.

Well, hurt or not hurt, he didn't break 40 yards against a big 12 opponent. I would need to see more evidence he can be productive against good teams. Will be interesting to see how it shakes out this spring and fall.

He was pretty much hurt for the entire Big 12 season, or at least most of it.
