Define "decent". It's via mediacom. Over the past 20 years we've had to replace ALL of the wiring in and outside the house including the junction box. We've replaced the router numerous times (most recently was about a month ago, and because we replaced it our TIVO immediately refused to recognize it. Took them several days to get back out here & reprogram the TIVOs (yes, WE tried to reset the main box but were unsuccessful).

We have too much slope and too many trees for a line of sight for a dish. We looked into it but the best place to put it is over 100 yards from the house which comes with its own set of issues. We are resigned to making the best of it with Mediacom. You give up a few things when you live on a wooded acreage, and I'm not willing to move back into town for better internet. :D
I get it. I have lived on an acreage most of my life. But I did get fiber at my last one. Although it was through probably the worst company in the country, Omnitel, total monopoly and total price gouging. They charge more for 10meg than what most charge for 1Gig.

More people are getting access to Starlink although I am not sure if that is helpful in your situation.

I was asking because if you have decent internet, most of the streaming options out there blow away regular cable now. Even if you keep internet with mediacom and just move your cable to Hulu or YTTV etc. but again you would need a decent internet connection.

But I know Decent internet is an issue for some areas, and many times it really depends on house wire too. Which is why most of the time anymore it is better to bring new into the house/modem and run wireless from there.

A KU basketball game on ESPN+? I get ISU games on ESPN+. But KU? I live out of state and I have plenty of subscriptions, but I'm not biting on ESPN+ for a few games.

The game in Lawrence was on + last year.

Sorry about your issues with Mediacom. Having lived (and still do nearly half the year) in Iowa for many decades and had Mediacom I can say without reservation - Be damned glad you don't live in an area with Comcast/Xfinity as your only cable/internet option. They make Mediacom look good.
We had years of trouble with our internet from CenturyLink. Unfortunately Centurylink had a telephone monopoly in our neighborhood so we couldn't get it from another phone company so we looked at cable providers. We ended up with Xfinity and we bundled it with their cable service too. We got tired of DirecTV jacking up our rates and constantly having to threaten to drop them to get a reasonable rate for a year then having a ridiculous rate again. We haven't had any problems with Xfinity.

I have to every single time on my browser
My guess is that is a setting you have for cookies on your browser. Most likely you have a security setting on it or a security software that is preventing it from staying logged in or deleting the log in each time, that is not ESPN doing it.

A fiber company (don't remember which one) came through and ran fiber to all of the houses on our private lane free of charge. We looked at their prices and they would have near doubled what we were paying, for fewer channels, but we let them put it in on the off chance that a future owner might want it. While laying the fiber, they cut a six-foot wide swath through our 25+ year old lilac hedge (it's about 100ft long, they cut through the middle) and well...let's just say I'm not inclined to think kindly of them. They gave us 3 single stem potted lilacs to plant in place of the hedge (which is approx. 7ft tall). And they were three different varieties, none of which matched the rest of the hedge.

So...not a big fan of the fiber optic option where I'm at. :)

I jumped on the Disney+, Hulu, ESPN+ app right when they had that bundle deal. I liked the mandalorian and some of the other Star Wars stuff that came out, the three year old obviously loves Disney+, the wife likes some crap on Hulu I guess, and then obviously espn+ is somewhat of a need for Cyclone fans. I understand them putting some big games on there, wanting more people to subscribe.

ESPNU is the one that really annoyed me, but my brother in law used his Hulu login on my tvs espn app one time when he was down so now I can watch those games the same way I watch espn+

Yeah, that sucks, I hate when they have to dig anywhere. No care for anything.

But I am not talking going with either Mediacom or the Fiber companies Cable TV pack. Just their internet. Then getting Hulu+Live or similar. As long as you have a decent internet speed it usually is a far superior product to Cable.

And Like has been said Hulu+Live comes with ESPN+ and Disney+ included, and no need for Tivo, because DVR is built in and cloud based and unlimited, not to mention 90% of content is available on demand.

Most of the time Hulu+Live or YTTV offers a lot more channels and content than the cable companies do unless you really pay for extremely high packages.

If it was metronet, yeah, theyre clearly not trying to sell the fiber tv. The path for people who get fiber internet is to get one of the streaming services.

We haven't really priced things out for a while, but the last time we did we paid more for the internet when it wasn't coupled with the cable TV (matter of fact, there's also a phone line in the package, but we have NO non-cellular phones hooked up). Then we added what was available at the time and the overall cost was stupid expensive. I may go back & start pricing things again. However, I seem to be one of the last remaining people that actually watches shows on the basic four networks (CBS, NBC, ABC, & FOX). Unless those are incorporated somewhere, I'm better off with cable. :)

TJ's troop is playing some of the best basketball in the country. Too bad nobody is going to see it! Tech, and upcoming games at ku, vs Texas, and at OSU are all on the tv stream that nobody watches.
I had a subscription last season to espn+. Somehow they determined I had a fake account. Every game I had to delete the app, reload it and put in my password. Otherwise it would just lock me out. Vowed they would never get another dollar from me.
This Saturday, there will be 2 games matching top 25 teams. Both will be in the Big 12. One of them features teams tied for first, in the toughest mbb conference in the usa. Should be the headline event. Where can you watch this you ask? Almost no one will see this high level game because it is on the antithesis of the "mothership". The network no one watches. The tier 3. The minus. And the big 12 certainly doesn't make any money on it.
I'll be listening to John and Eric. Again.
Rant over.
I had espn+ last year. Seemed like a waste almost. The network is bad, usually not great announcers, and still many of the games I bought it for (Big 12 )were on other networks. It was a downer.

So disappointed last year that I haven't made the effort to get it this year.

local channels are on Hulu+Live. I dont know about YTTV but I am sure they are.
I get all the local ABC, CBS, Fox, NBC etc channels just like it is cable, only it comes thru the internet instead of cable.

I also have a slim antenna on a couple TVs that pulls in most if not all locals...Just in case. All but hidden sits on top of TV. Not really needed but Its just in case of emergency thing for me. I think it stems from my days of having satellite and bad weather it going out, I wanted to have a way to see the weather during storms. not really an issue with Hulu+Live.

Antenna is this. sits right on top of tv barely see it.

The problem with streaming is you lose the ability to get a casual fan to watch. I realize that ESPN puts this game on plus since they think they can get the most subscribers. But is someone who doesn’t care about wirher team going to turn in? Probably not. But if they are looking for something to watch on their regular tv, they might stop at our game.
Yeah and the casual fan will get stuck with BIG and SEC for the forseeable future. Gag.

I like how people argue this game is on ESPN+ because "its the two most rabid fanbases" in a thread full of people ******** about it.

It's on ESPN+ because its Kansas against a team that was expected to suck this year.

Except half of their games are on the SEC Net or B1G Net... which half the people say they dont want for the B12. No casual fan is going to switch to those networks....unless they are specifically a fan of those leagues or seeking one of those games. Our content that would be on a B12 network is on ESPN+ Just like these others have on their networks. Then all the rest of their content is on their streaming platforms, for VB, and Wrestling etc. Like ESPN+ B1G+ etc. All of our extra content is in one place. ESPN+

Do you want a B12 network? Do you want it to look like the PacNet, that is only available on a very select few sources? How much exposure are they getting for the casual fan? Sure the B1Gnet has a lot of subscribers, but how much does their extra content have? How much do the extra games and content on their streaming get seen. I know I never see it. But I see the extra content all over for all the Big 12 and SEC etc on ESPN+ Just like they see ours.

23M subs on ESPN+ up 7M in 1 year. Growing fast. I think a lot of casual fans are seeing the content. That is about 1/3 of the total subscribers for ESPN in the US(about 75M and dropping in '22) But growing. ESPN2,U,News etc have less than half the subs than that of the main channel.

43M subs on Hulu.

Soon ESPN+ will have just as much exposure as what ESPN2,U, and News have, and start to catch the main channel.

I have not seen the problem with the announcers etc that some have, for the most part. I mean sometimes they arent great, but its not like watching terrible B1GNet announcers, or big name national guys that only brag up SEC or B1G people. And I rarely have had any tech issues either. Sure sometimes it could be better product but it is light years better than CyTv was.

And Hey I didnt live in the metro until a few years ago, so I never had the luxury of seeing Iowa State on local TV. Some of you forget that. A few years ago if you didnt live in the metro area, it was pretty hard to see all the games, hell it was impossible. You were lucky to see a few.

Edit: the 75M ESPN main channel subs is for Cable and satellite. I didnt see that it did not include streaming until a second look. Streaming may be harder for them to discern with the combination of Plus in some packages. International numbers for the main channel are around 140M, but I dont know what content is shown in other countries. But the other sub channels like ESPN2, are in the 50Ms total.
