I'm not going to insult anyone's intelligence by trying to suggest that I'm unbiased when I write this, but we really have the look of a dark horse Final Four team right now.

Never know! ISU is better everywhere.

Any tourney is great, any win is gravy especially in the current era.

This is one of the funniest things that happened after the game. So, an Ames delivery driver had fun with mocking how cheap Texas tips. And Texas tweeted a pic of the bill with the actual tip, which was more than what he stated. That’s funny enough. But the best part is that by releasing what each player got, Texas showed how unhealthy their team eats. The foot long sandwiches they ordered were probably not the best thing for athletes to eat on game day.

Experienced guards, depth in the front court, emphasis on and a track record of defensive excellence… some of the hallmarks for sure.

It’s rarely been more than a couple minutes after when I have been able to watch the full ESPN+ replay basically right away. Occasionally 30 minutes or so after. Never the next day. A bit nervous there’s something fishy with the TX deal that will prevent this replay from being available, as it should be up by now. The Kansas/KSU full game replay was available right away (not ESPN+ but same app).

If someone finds it on YouTube, please post! TIA!
Not the full game, but 29 min of highlights, here

You are correct about OSU. But all those above in my memory stand out as real close.

Not even including any of LE's 99-00. They were classic like when Fizer face planted Mihm.
1987 -- vs Iowa (top 10); Lafester went for 54 and holds the school record.
Might not have been the loudest, but ... it was one of my loudest.

I'm so effing happy Otz is our coach.

I really think if another team is multi-talented like Texas (& we may find that out down at the rematch) plays the tough defense for 35-40 minutes like we can do, that talent will win out. But will all teams do that? UConn did that when they beat us & were deep and talented. (Have no idea why they have gone thru a tough stretch lately.) Contrarily, I don't feel KU is much more talented than us if you consider depth. Advantage is that Wilson and GD are NBA'ers of course. But the way our guys prepare and play with toughness and poise always gives us a chance it would seem. Tournament play is such a crapshoot tho. And how games are called.....some games the fouls mount up early especially for Osun.

If the Lafester game was that loud, shout out to the old people back then. If I recall correctly, that game was during a student break.

You are correct, although the games were played at weird days back then. This was the Monday after the semester ended so I think many students (like me) just stayed and went to the game before heading home. Plus this was the period where students were dispersed throughout the arena. Tickets were split between four locations during the season. Two were crappy balcony spots, one was decent balcony and one was good lower section spot. I actually had press pass for the Iowa game so roamed the concourse shouting my damn head off the entire game to where I lost my voice and couldn't talk for two days after.

Having 5 star players doesn’t guarantee instant team success.. Look at Arkansas, Duke, and Texas. Key players in these teams are not 5 star freshmen

I wasn't there but the game where Magic was born with Barry Stevens hitting the buzzer beater vs Mizzou should always be mentioned.

I think OSU '92 and Iowa '87 will usually get most of the votes as all timers but there are a couple under the radar games I was there for. KU in '93 was ranked about 7th(??) and had ESPN slobbering all over Rex Walters and Adonis Jordan as the best backcourt in the country. Bayless and JT weren't having it. That was back when your student tickets rotated and I was upper level, midcourt in the 2nd to the last row. The noise reverberation off the ceiling in Hilton is unlike anything else I've ever heard. My ears rang for days. Awesome game.

Oky State came to town in '00 with the winner leaving with the inside track to the conference title. They had Gottlieb, who was easy to hate and always jawing with somebody, and a gritty team coached by Eddie. Great game and the feeling at the end of that one when everybody realized that there was no way we weren't winning that 'ship was amazing.

I was there for the Boddicker game and it was VERY loud for his FTs. The crazy thing was, that one wasn't a sellout. There were probably 2000 empty seats up in the end zone and corners.

Best quote from Johnny was after the game in the press conference.

"We just beat the number 2 team in the country. Might wanna put that in the paper". ISU had been so disrespected by local media. Funny.
"We've beaten the #2 team and the #3 team in the nation now, you know. Just in case you want to put that in the paper."

Just throwing darts here but I wonder if this has something to do with why we can maintain a high level of defensive intensity and look like we get stronger when the other team starts to wear down at the end?

TJ looks like he knows a thing or two about nutrition, I heard Watson on the radio after the Kansas game saying Sunday they were focusing on resting and refueling. Wouldn't surprise me if Texas ate like crap, Beard didn't look like the model of health either so problby didn't care what they ate.

Actually, it was the Saturday after finals. Was able to stay in the dorms Friday night, kicked out of the dorms by noon, if not earlier, then killed time waiting for the game. Those were the lottery days, as mentioned, but the Iowa game was part of a 5 game break package--ended up with row 5 center court parquet opposite the benches. When players were being introduced at the beginning, you could not hear the PA announcer it was so loud--coaches eventually just started pushing players on to the court.

Incredible game. Rev. Jesse Jackson ended up congratulating LaFester right in front of us after the game. Then we drove home to Iowa City through a blizzard at 30 mph. Good times!
