Came into town to watch my sons 8 month old daughter while he and the wife went to the game. She had a bottle and fell asleep at 7:15. I had 6 and stayed up for the whole game. I’m beginning to question if she has any of the family genes.

Passing out after just 1 bottle is not acceptable. Tell her next time it's go big.....or go home.

1987 -- vs Iowa (top 10); Lafester went for 54 and holds the school record.
Might not have been the loudest, but ... it was one of my loudest.

I'm so effing happy Otz is our coach.
That was a night that the Ames Fire Chief could not have been happy with the # in the building.

Actually, it was the Saturday after finals. Was able to stay in the dorms Friday night, kicked out of the dorms by noon, if not earlier, then killed time waiting for the game. Those were the lottery days, as mentioned, but the Iowa game was part of a 5 game break package--ended up with row 5 center court parquet opposite the benches. When players were being introduced at the beginning, you could not hear the PA announcer it was so loud--coaches eventually just started pushing players on to the court.

Incredible game. Rev. Jesse Jackson ended up congratulating LaFester right in front of us after the game. Then we drove home to Iowa City through a blizzard at 30 mph. Good times!
Also a pretty good snowfall during the game. Made for a very dicey drive home going east. But, it was worth it!

Davis was the Iowa coach for that game. There was a scuffle after the game between ISU and Iowa coaches. Well, scuffle might be too harsh. Strong words were exchanged in a heated convo.
Must have been another game. The sui radio crew had to turn off their crowd mic.

In the early years of Johnny Orr, probably the biggest games were:
Beating Minnesota. A few weeks before the Mizzou game and probably the genesis of Hilton Magic.
Mizzou. I sat next to Norm Stewart working as a student. After Barry’s shot, never heard as many expletive deletives in one sentence.
Oklahoma in 1983-84. At that time, Johnny’s biggest win next to Mizzou. Their only loss in the Big 8 and they had Wayman Tisdale, a lottery pick before there was a lottery pick.
I remember being at Hilton and thinking the Minnesota game must be a big deal because there were actually people sitting in the balcony... Just looked it up. 9,138 in attendance.

Didn't see this posted anywhere. Typical Texas arrogance from their coach in the post game interview.

On what Hunter's return to Iowa State was like for him:

Terry:
"Tyrese is a terrific kid. He is a terrific young player that — forget about basketball — off the court is an incredible kid. He loves playing college basketball and college athletics. Again, we're Texas. We're everybody's big game. So we looked at it like, 'You know what? It's just another opportunity for us to compete at the highest level and the next big game on our schedule.'
thanks for sharing it.

Yeah, three of us went to the game and we were supposed to go all the way to Clinton that night. Took 80 instead of 30 and was happy just to get to Iowa City. Almost got stuck at the rest stop near Grinnell when we stopped to make a phone call. Had to weave in and out of all the semis parked on the exit ramp.

I’ve noticed a lot of Texas fans whining about Grill taking that dude on the board and draining a 3 on the transition. Texas fans are calling it an assault. Some jokes just write themselves

Watched replay. Announcers were fine. Some people need to back off a bit. Halftime thing BS.
Halftime thing was the most ESPN-Texas circle jerk ever. I can’t wait until these douche bags leave the conference. Imagine their whining when they don’t get their way all the time in the SEC. It’s going to be absolutely glorious.

Their fan base is one of the most delusional in all of sports.

Just throwing darts here but I wonder if this has something to do with why we can maintain a high level of defensive intensity and look like we get stronger when the other team starts to wear down at the end?

TJ looks like he knows a thing or two about nutrition, I heard Watson on the radio after the Kansas game saying Sunday they were focusing on resting and refueling. Wouldn't surprise me if Texas ate like crap, Beard didn't look like the model of health either so problby didn't care what they ate.
I think that strength and conditioning has evolved a lot in recent years. It’s not just “hit the weights”. Nutrition is a huge part of this as well as recovery, flexibility, etc. Probably not quite pro sports level, but much more advanced than in the past.

I can’t speak for ISU with first hand knowledge, but with TJs focus on daily habits I would not be surprised if this were part of it. And would not be surprised if other programs - like those with underachieving 4/5 star recruits, for example - don’t exhibit this kind of discipline off the floor.

Also, Beard absolutely looked like the kind of guy that regularly had one too many drinks and was abusive to his wife.
