It had to have been ruled an inadvertent whistle. If it hit anything it would have been out off of ISU and been awarded to OSU.
It was offensive goaltend. Osun pulled the rim down and shot the ball into the air.

ISU's defense gave up 61 points today to a home team...that's fine for a conference game and should result in a win. The offense has too many stagnant stretches...the coaches need to figure out how to mitigate those. As pointed out above, the same thing happened at OU and nearly cost ISU a victory.

Also, FT shooting needs to get better quickly...ISU is towards the bottom of the league again this year, and the teams that ISU is with are likely going to finish towards the bottom of the conference. There is a big gap between #6 and #7. Maybe the bad FT shooters need to come out towards the end of close games. ISU was the worst FT shooting team in conference games last year at 0.656.

If you thought we were actual conference contenders then I feel like that's squarely on you. We started hot and got some luck but we certainly aren't and never really were at that level of good. Kansas State isn't either if that makes you feel any better.
I posted the original post that brought that response at the under 4 timeout with us up 1. If we would have made a couple of free throws or any number of plays down the stretch to pull out an ugly game, we would have had a home game Tuesday with solo 1st place on the line almost halfway through the conference season. We've had some good fortune, but we're also an elite defensive team with one of the most experienced D1 rosters in the country. And while the conference is outstanding top to bottom, 2020 KU or 2021 Baylor isn't walking through that door. It's there for the taking IF you can find a way on days like this, which is what I was saying.

But ya, wth was I thinking? No way that sounds like a contender.

Still opportunities to contend for title (or at least make it interesting), but to have realistic chance, need find a way to hold on in games like this to do it.

.. I'm bummed, but broader picture, we could've lost to TCU & OU, so I'll take the road wins when we can get them. (Also probably should've won at KU, so I guess we're 2-2 in close road games, we've seen worse).

If it had been nip & tuck entire way, then lost by 2, you shrug a little ... having that massive lead early it feels worse. Not that I expected to maintain or extend it, but I still had a decent vibe how first half ended, thought we could keep it above a couple of possessions for long enough. Alas ...
I feel this the most. A 16 point lead early in the first half was definitely a surprised. Felt like they righted the ship at the end to put the lead at 10 there was good enough to keep OSU at bay. Frustrating to see the combination of ice cold shooting & poor FT %. Can't be too upset at the D for keeping them at 61 points.

I ******* hate ISU fans right now. Lose with some ******* dignity ffs.
It’s pathetic. We are 5-2 and top 15 and still can win the league. We are this far without a started with Jaz and today Grill was limited. Would you rather lose a tough game two players down on the road or by 23 at home like Kansas did? Road all day every day.

Should we have won? Maybe. Yes it was a frustrating game. But JFC to be where we are this year and see the reaction of fans is just stupid.

Under Hoiberg and Prohm we'd be at 3-4 right now at best. Being 5-2 and not feeling like the ways we won were totally unsustainable feels like a massive W for me. If this year and last year are the worst it gets for us until we get ourselves some high level talent then most of us will live the rest of our lifetimes watching some really good college basketball

Nope, ball can’t go over the backboard. The referee’s mechanics indicated it was an out of bounds call, not basket interference or an inadvertent whistle.

Most of us, in very limited scope of espn+ broadcast, just saw it go way up and come down way in bounds. Even if ok st got it, why blow the whistle before it comes down?

I’m more perplexed how it could have possibly done what is being claimed, I could see it curving from spin but not completely changing primary direction in air.
That makes sense. I was also confused. Others seem to somehow be implying this was some kind of critical turning point.

Do you honestly think that this team is equal in talent to those Kansas and Baylor teams? We have good players, but they also had NBA guys on those squads. I like our dudes a lot, but we don't have NBA players on this team right now. We're playing Robert Jones over 10 minutes per game. There's a major, major difference between the two. Yes we have good vets who are playing the best basketball of their careers. The flaws never just suddenly disappeared though. We've just been playing above our level. And that's ok! That speaks to our coaching, culture, and work put in by everyone.

It's not a loss that matters if you want to get in the tourney as a 9 seed with an 8-10 conf record. It does matter if you want to challenge for the conf title and a 2 seed and a spot in Des Moines. Ok state is going to lose a lot of games in this conference, the top teams will beat them twice. if you want all that fun stuff above, then you have to beat the bad conf teams on the road. Still a lot of ball to play.

I think we might be hitting that mid season lull. Lipsey kind of hit the freshmen wall, guys looked tired today, couple guys are hurt. The way they practice and play, they will get tired at some point. Just have to fight through it.

Iowa State fans pre conference:
I'll just be happy if we win 8 conference games and make the tournament. Every game is tough in this conference!

Iowa State fans after starting 5-1 in conference but dropping a close loss on the road to a tough team:

If you had told any poster on here we'd start 5-2 in conference they would have been ECSTATIC. We have two one possession losses on the road that we had a shot at the end to win. I would've liked to see a different shot than a contested 3 from Tre at the end but whatever. This team will be fine. Just need to get Grill healthy
