Maybe Jane should do some research.

Last night I heard multiple talking heads say that Purdy has hit his ceiling. That he's in trouble because he'd have to air it out and make plays to beat Philly since the teams are so evenly matched on both sides of the ball, but not QB.

I don't believe any of this. The kid just turned 23, he's got a lot of growing to do and will get a lot better.

As for the game, I think it's going to be a ground and pound with Purdy converting on 3rd down, just like he did against Dallas. It's going to be an intense, controlled game.

It's nice to have meaningful football in late January.

I mean, even if he's hit his ceiling that ceiling has put him at the top of the league over the last 3rd of the season. What do people want from him?

he finally had a sub 95 qb rating, "see we told you!"

Honestly, if he tucks the ball and takes a sack 2-3 more times in his college career, this narrative vanishes. I was just disappointed that for whatever reason he didn't seem to learn that lesson completely while at ISU. I don't think he's got that same pressure on his shoulders in the league though.

Didn't Jalen Hurts only throw for like 150 yards last week? Why is no one saying he might have to prove it with his arm?

I’ve never heard of any player hitting their ceiling after playing 8 games as a rookie, whoever said, that should be completely ignored And shamed.

He’s flat out said he felt like he had to make the plays at ISU to win, which to me alludes that he didn’t have the line and to a lesser extent receivers to count on to be able to “live to fight another day.” I don’t quite buy it since Breece was always a threat to bust one no matter what, but he definitely didn’t have the line to hold up for a 100% passing, end of game drive.

On the other hand, you cannot get better preparation for the speed and pressure of the NFL than playing behind a very shaky oline in college.

Purdy's passer rating Sunday was 87.4

This regular season here are some quick hits from the quote un-quote best QBs in the league:
  • Josh Allen - 7 games under 87.4 passer rating
  • Joe Burrow - 4 games under 87.4 passer rating
  • Justin Herbert - 7 games under 87.4 passer rating
  • Jalen Hurts - 4 games under 87.4 passer rating
  • Patrick Mahomes - 5 games under 87.4 passer rating
Passer rating isn't the be all, end all, of evaluating QBs and I'm not trying to say Purdy is better then the guys I just listed. But you'd think those guys never have off/bad games and now Purdy is trash based on one game against a top-5 defense in the league based on how the weekend analysis is being presented.

Especially when he has lots of other games and a second playoff game now that require ignoring.

I haven't watched this much NFL in 18 or so years. I may have watched a game every few weeks, but since BCB has been playing, I've watched or listened to every second of the 49ers games and post game pressers.

I went 100% in too. I can get them on local radio and the radio streams aren't all blocked for me so I've been strategically planning some weekend hikes that are actually Purdy 9ers listening sessions.

I follow all the NBA guys to an extent but not this closely, just nature of football compared to 100ish game basketball season. If 76ers make a run I will probably be really into it. The Nuggets didn't win a title with Monte but they had some teams where it was very possible, 4 straight years top 2 in western conference. 76ers have the horses this year if they are healthy and Georges is pretty clearly 6th man.

Part of me is looking forward to football ending, so that I can turn my attention back to college basketball. But unfortunately, that’s not gonna happen for about 2 1/2 weeks After Purdy wins the SB.

Traditional QB rating is a lot like batting average in baseball, it tells a story, but not a very complete one. You need to start looking at things like EPA and other advanced stats. They incorporate so much more than traditional rating which is just a simple math formula based on attempts, completions, yards, tds, and ints.

On an EPA basis Brock was worth 25.2 total EPA and 0.72 EPA/play against Seattle, his best game of the year, but this week he was worth 3.2 total EPA and 0.09 EPA/play, which is in fact his worst performance of the year and a lot closer to several of his other games than last week was. (From weeks 13 to 18, Brock was a top 5 QB with an EPA/play of 0.207. ) Mahomes has one or two games close to that low. The others have all had a least a couple below that, if not games in which they produced negative EPA.
