It's still tampering, but there's no good way to prove it unless they're complete idiots, and even then, the school would just look bad trying to fight it.

It’s not tampering if an old AAU coach or a ‘mentor’ reaches out to different programs to gauge ‘hypothetical interest.’ And, frankly, if a “student athlete” is trying to find a better situation, it’s hard to be mad at them for doing due diligence before entering the portal, too.

Core to build around:
Lipsey - PG
Jeremiah Williams - PG/CG
Watson - Wing/Stretch 4
Tre King - Wing F/Small C

Incoming Freshman:
Hamilton - SG/CG
Biliew - Wing/Stretch 4
Momcilovic - Wing/Stretch 4

Unknown:
Eli King - PG/CG
Kayden Fish - Wing F/Stretch 4
Hason Ward - C
Robert Jones - C

We seem to be set at PG and Wing/Stretch 4 spots unless an ELITE option is in play. But in the current pay to play portal, we are likely not in-play for the DeAndre Kane's or Royce White..

2023/24 Primary Players (200 min):
Lipsey (30)
Transfer scoring guard (32)
Biliew (28)

Key Pieces (110 remaining):
Transfer C - ex: Grant Basile 2022 (24)
Williams (22)
Tre King (22)
Watson (20)
Momcilovic (14)

8 minutes remaining:
Center minutes (5) - Ward, BRE, transfer?
back-up SG/CG (3) - Eli King, Hamilton, transfer?

- After doing this exercise... We REALLY need an AJ Green for 2023/24 at SG.
- I think we see A LOT of Biliew, Watson, and Momcilovic in the 3/4 spots, 62 min across them..
- Lipsey and Williams take all of the PG minutes with Williams taking 10-12 minutes at the off-ball when we need two PG's.
- If BRE were to return, I PRAY NOT.. I wonder who leaves or who's minutes get cut.
- We need a big off season from Tre King, Watson, and Lipsey in the shooting department
- Kayden Fish looks like the ideal candidate for a redshirt, I think in the current system that every team should take 1-2 of these guys

I disagree on Robert Jones, but agree with most of the rest. My #1 want by a mile is a dynamic, high level shooting guard.

I think we need at least 2 shooting or combo guards. We had 4 guards this year (Lipsey, Holmes, Gabe and Grill) and that was arguably 1 short. Next year you get Williams back so you have him and Lipsey for sure. Add 2 good transfer guards (hopefully one can be the emergency PG) and you're back to 4 guards. Then you hope Eli stays and develops or Jelani can play and be that 5th guard. We lose Gabe, Holmes, and Grill that's a ton of our scoring and it's a guards game. I'm hoping we can get one guy that is better than any of those 3 and then I'd take another Holmes type player.

I agree. I had additional thoughts, but didn't finish them.

#2- another guard/wing
#3- center

Totally agree. We have quite a few forward types coming back that I think you could make work in the front court but another taller Osun type center would be nice.

Center should be #2

Lipsey
Stud 2 guard
Williams

That is 80 minutes at 2 spots plus another 5+ at 3

Watson
Biliew
Momcilovic

60 minutes+ across the 3/4 spots as I don't think you can play any of them at 5 in the Big 12.

Tre King is a much better fit at 4 but could play 5-10 at the 5 against smaller teams, unless he makes a KJ Adams type jump in 2023/24

I think even KU fans would agree that KJ Adams is not the ideal 5. If they run into a team with a good front court, that can get them in foul trouble, and they're not making their 3s, they could be in trouble.

8/9 is the ideal group to run with

Lipsey
Stud SG who can shoot Any Scott Christopherson, Marial Shayok duplicates?
Omaha
Tre King
Stud C - Any Grant Basile's available? Can We Will afford?

Williams
Watson
Momcilovic
Transfer guard, Hamilton, or a MASSIVE jump from Eli King to be the 9th

Shooting is the biggest need for 2023/24

To me, that really depends on whether Rob and Hassan come back. If they both do, then 2 guard is also #2 on my wishlist.

I am amazed the amount of player evaluation and recruiting expertise we see on a daily basis. I bet TJ monitors forums to keep his list updated for future staff opening. Probably why he talks to CW so he can get identities.

LOL I always make the mistake if clicking on this thread I never pay attention in reality till TJ brings someone in. Don't know most the names and don't follow enough other teams or conferences to know anyway.

I think your priorities are spot on as we need a guard to who make a 3 or score off the dribble. We desperately need a Shayok/Brockington type player from the portal.

The other priority is probably a scoring 5. Even if Ward and Jones return, we need a 3rd big who could be a consistent low post offensive threat/rim protector. Plus, positional depth is critical in case of injuries. So a 3rd 5 would be great.

I had big hopes for Tre King. He showed glimpses, but just wasn't very consistent. Part of that was because of his defense and tendency to get into foul trouble. Feel like he can avoid foul trouble playing the 4 vs. 5. Would be surprised if Momcilovic has physical strength to play 5 in the Big12 as a frosh.
