Iowa's Mt. Rushmore of Sports - ESPN

I have no problem with the 4 that they chose. Feller is obvious. Gable's coaching prowess puts him over the top. Warner is a future Hall of Fame QB. Nile Kinnick as a Heisman winner and CFB Hall of Famer.

What is up with their list of standouts.

Zalesky makes the list because of 3 titles, but Dr. Harold Nichols and his 6 titles doesn't.

Chuck Long makes it with a great college career and a mediocre professional one, but Troy Davis doesn't?

yeah and didn't Troy Davis finish 2nd in Heisman voting too? That's what note they put for Chuck Long.

I think some Iowa State basketball players are missing from that list.

I was thinking the same thing, but figured they had to be from the state, but Wisconsin's has Favre, Lombardi, Hank Aaron and Al Maguire. Go figure Espn would screw something like this up.

Maybe Hoiberg, considering his 10 year career, or Hornacek could be considered. I can't really say they'd have much of an argument over BJ Armstrong or Bobby Hanson, so I can't really see any of them in there.

I also don't think Tom Davis could be seriously considered.

I thought these lists were not selected by ESPN but voted on by people from that state...that's how they are promoting on the air.

I was impressed with Alabama's top 4 this morning. Coach Paul Bear Bryant, Bo Jackson, Hank Aaron and Willie Mays. 2 of the greatest MLB players of all time. 1 of the greatest college coaches of all time, arguably THE greatest. and then a combination of the 2 sports in bo jackson. great player for the royals and the raiders. this all of course after his great days at auburn (back before we hated auburn).
