Something must be wrong...this thread has surprisingly stayed on topic (for the most part). Way to go CF. Knew you could do it.
Now that the roster is finalized, I'm going:Impatiently waiting to see what happens in the portal, and already excited and wanting to talk about next year. My prediction today for starting lineup by Big 12 play is:
PG - Lipsey
SG - Transfer
SF - Momcilovic
PF - Biliew
C - King
Backup PG - Williams
Backup SG - Watson/Hamilton
Backup SF - Watson
Backup PF - Ward/Fish
Backup C - Jones/Ward
Momcilovic is too skilled offensively to not start, but he probably wont at the beginning of the year.
King at ony 6'7 playing the 5 could be interesting, but he's a junkyard dog and very capable.
Maybe a bit speculation. Is that based on anything the coaches said or just speculation? Coming from a much lower level of competition and given his smaller size, I think he's going to have the biggest challenge in adjusting to the physicality of the game, whereas Gilbert and Jones come in better equipped in that regard. I mean, Pav is just one year removed from having no P5 interest out of HS. I think he'll be offensive firepower off the bench, but struggle a bit defensively and be more of a role player this year and then a bigger star the next year
There is no place for CEO to get minutes. Sorry. Unless serious garbage time. With a bench of 12-13 being Hamilton and Fish. What are the thoughts on TJ just doing rotational chaos all year like he did in our slump this year? CEO plays 5 min a game
I think, from a team morale perspective, playing everyone at least a couple minutes (except walk-ons) is a great approach. You need everyone to be ready all the time, so it makes a lot of senseWhat are the thoughts on TJ just doing rotational chaos all year like he did in our slump this year? CEO plays 5 min a game
I personally love it. Play em all.I think, from a team morale perspective, playing everyone at least a couple minutes (except walk-ons) is a great approach. You need everyone to be ready all the time, so it makes a lot of sense
No that it matter but Pav would be guarding 1's and 2's not 3's so I'd switch Pav and Gilbert aroundNow that the roster is finalized, I'm going:
Lipsey
Gilbert
Pav
Biliew
King
Lots of bench minutes to Momcilovic, Ward, and Jones
Omaha is a ridiculous 6'8" athlete - he'll score a ton in the post.A concern with the current roster is King is really the only reliable low post scorer. Milan might have skills but probably not the body. Omaha doesn't appear be that type of player.
If Rob Jones is playing 20 MPG we are in BIG trouble. Ideally more in the 10 range. If Omaha's shooting translates to this level we will have a lot of flexibility with our lineups. If not, he will need to play the 4/5 most of the time. Having Lipsey, King, and R. Jones as major rotational pieces as well as Ward and Watson factoring in means we need as much shooting as we can get out of the other spots. Hopefully Lipsey and Watson develop some consistency and confidence with their shooting.
1- Lipsey- 32 MPG
2- Gilbert- 26 MPG
3. C. Jones- 26 MPG
4- Biliew- 26 MPG
5- R. Jones- 20 MPG
6- King- 26 MPG
7- Watson- 16 MPG
8- Pav- 14 MPG
9- Momcilovic- 14 MPG
10- Williams- rotational
11- Ward- rotational
For some reason I just can't keep myself away from Robert Jones discourse. If Rob Jones is playing 20 MPG we are in BIG trouble. Ideally more in the 10 range.
Clearly this supports BRE the foundation for the great success next season. It's a fact! For some reason I just can't keep myself away from Robert Jones discourse.
This season, Jones averaged 17 MPG, 9 games with at least 20 minutes and 18 with at least 17 minutes. In the 9 games with at least 20 minutes, Iowa State went 6-3. In the 18 games with at least 17 minutes, Iowa State went 12-6. And no, those records aren't because those games were only against non-conference cupcakes (Western Michigan was the only non-power 6 opponent of the 9 games he played more than 20 minutes).
Obviously it's correlation and not causation, but it seems like hyperbole to say "we are in BIG trouble" if he plays 20 minutes a game considering they did fine (better than the season record actually) when he did this year.
I gotta believe if Ward is coming back, he was told he'd get more playing time this season. I'd guess BRE and Ward get around 15 mpg each and the other 10 will be a small ball lineupIf Omaha's shooting translates to this level we will have a lot of flexibility with our lineups. If not, he will need to play the 4/5 most of the time. Having Lipsey, King, and R. The downside of portal recruiting is the window is short and athlete interest must be immediate as there is no time to develop a relationship.BRE has shown he'll likely be in early foul trouble in most games... and I don't see that changing.
That's why I kinda wish TJ had brought in another big with Curtis Jones' scholarship. Nothing against Jones whatsoever, it's just my opinion that our roster needed another big more than another guard.
