that is insanely cheap, we use a company not cheap but do a great job...you get what you pay for sometimes

True....I have an "in" as its a family friend, and I pay cash....and have helped work on her car/etc....not necessarily typical cleaning service...

Well I took an early out from Uncle Sam a few years ago and actually do some house cleaning to stay active. Soooo whoever is getting their house cleaned for $40-50 each time better hang on to them! There is 2 of us, 12 homes ranging from $75 -175 pretty much every other week. Some take longer than because of that clutter others have mentioned. It's hard work but the people we help become our friends and I don't mind it. As a side note, make sure you hand out a nice Christmas bonus to them, just sayin!

Cudos to you.

But the last thing I am doing on my weekend is cleaning.
We have a pretty open floor plan so it helps to see/hear the TV while cleaning. I have a radio in the bathroom, so I’ll clean that when a sports game is on that I want to listen to.

We have a Mennonite family. $135 every 2 weeks. 4 bedrooms and 3 baths. Washes and changes bedding. Does any leftover dishes. Sews clothes if we ask. Brings us great goodies from Amish bakery. Almost like family.

Bumping this.

Looking for recs on a one time deep clean in the Ankeny area. We’ve never hired one so I have no idea how much house they can cover per hour. For having three kids, we keep our house clean but it would be nice to have someone go to that next level.

go with a reputable company, individuals can be hit or miss depending on the person/how they are feeling that day, at least with a company you have some recourse

This. You'll pay a bit more for it, but it's worth it. Make sure to get a checklist of things that they'll do, so there's no confusion or misaligned expectations.

How much is everyone paying? My wife pulled up one place this morning that had rates on their website and it was 50-60 an hour, which seems like a lot for a cleaning person.

I need to change my vote from No Not Gonna Happen to Yes. We recently started having someone come clean twice a month for a few hours. I think we pay $30/hr. It has been amazing.

We pay $45 every two weeks, it usually takes her a couple hours, just a gal we found through our old daycare provider. It's not the most thorough deep clean or anything, but floors, toilets, sinks, vaccuum, dust, the basics and it's still totally worth.

Same, except it's $75 every two weeks. Mops, vacuums, bathroom and kitchen sinks, toilets, empties all of the trash cans (bathrooms, kitchen), makes all of the beds, and wipes down tables. Nothing groundbreaking like doing laundry or scrubbing showers, but she'll do the simple things.

Man, some of these prices you are all saying seem more than fair. How are these companies making any money at $25ish an hour?

The actual person doing the cleaning doesn't make much. Our previous service paid the cleaner like $12 an hour. We always tipped the cleaner like $20 bucks every time. There's not a ton of overhead beyond that.

We've done the through hearsay route as well. The first lady was good for awhile but I think she had some personal demons that got the best of her and we had to find a different one that was recommended to us but she's been great. I have a lot more faith in getting recommendations for anything from a friend than calling up a company and telling them what I wan.

We've used PH Clean a few times with great success. We really need to bite the bullet and get a cleaner on a regular basis. We have so much going on our house is a borderline disaster 90% of the time. I'm just such a cheapskate I can't do it.

To be fair, even a larger service is not immune to this kind of thing, and you may see some turnover in the actual person doing the work. But the benefit is that they can replace easier.

Yeah, must be thin margins after office rental, receptionist, etc.
I guess I didn't realize hiring this out was that affordable. I may need to look into it.
