No mow April would make more sense than May. Things grow so fast in May where it's just not practical to let your lawn grow so high (with or without weeds).

Even if you have dandelions and weeds (like myself), a routinely cut lawn looks pretty darn good and still offers opportunities for pollinators.
I prefer to reject and not legitimize terrible ideas by looking for alternative solutions. This is just a really really bad idea that deserves to be completely shut down. If a lawn needs to be mowed, then you just mow it regardless of what the calendar says.

Our neighborhood looks like crap because of this stupid no mow stuff. I feel like the mosquitoes are going to be horrible
Luckily, nobody in my neighborhood is doing it, and only one dandelion neighbor, but they finally caved and sprayed last week.

I think you’re underestimating the length of some of these lawns. There’s no way it won’t chunk up and choke out the remaining grass.
My my grass would be 2’ tall if I hadn’t already mowed a half dozen times over the last 4 weeks, and may is only half way done.

Not exactly sure.
We’ve mowed twice. Whereas the neighbors to back of us………

I don’t think are mowing. Mec-Amine may be their best bet. Their front looks like this. To the left side of this picture is a rock pile (I kid you not) and the north edge (that is a street side) is a dirt terrace right now looking like their back lawn.

We as a society come up with some really stupid things:

No mow may
No shave november
etc.

My neighbors must be working on no mow ever and no garbage service ever. The homeowner was actually arrested a few weeks ago for ignoring court orders to appear for his garbage yard, He bonded out but the judge gave him until June 1 to get the yard cleaned up. At this point we are confident that will not happen and hope he gets thrown in jail again. I plan on showing up to the next hearing to make sure the judge understands his garbage is polluting my yard and ponds.

This is as crazy a spring with the dandelions as I can remember. We always get them, but never as many as this year.

Side note - If anyone knows where I can get some grass hay (no alfalfa) let me know. Supposedly hay is hard to come by, which makes no sense to me and we need some for our goats.

We haven’t mowed yet this year, even though I want to. It’s not that we’re trying to be lazy. But there’s no way we make it all of May without mowing.

I always let my yard go to long and I've still mowed twice. Where do you live northern Mn?

I’m in Ames. I think whenever the grass dries up from this rain I’m just going to mow it. We’ve also planted a ton of flowers this year, so the bees will still have that.

A few dandelions would improve your neighbor’s yard.

My neighbor used to be obsessed about dandelions but won’t spray because of his dog and grandkids, so he would be out digging out roots. Finally husband mentions the large adjoining space of highway property with every weed on planet Earth and points out the futility.

Dude has chilled a bit and just clips them between mows. It was a bit shocking when he seemed to sincerely admire our violets and white clover.

For those familiar with Des Moines Easter Lake Dr has a detour. You can also take SE 31ST south to Payton to circumvent the closure. Anyway there's a retirement age couple on the corner of SE 31ST and Easter Lake Dr with a beautiful yard. Next door is one of the nastiest yards I've seen. Almost no grass, huge dead spots and huge patches of waist high weeds. It's ridiculous elected officials didn't see this coming.
