Espn layoffs gameday affected

Because I don't give a **** about October hockey... or NBA preseason basketball... or an expose about a deaf shot-putter from Lithuania, whose perseverance and gumption should be a lesson to us all. I don't want to have to tune into an hour worth of that crap plus commerical breaks, to be able to see NFL highlights, if I don't have to. And thankfully, due to media like Twitter and YouTube, people don't have to, which is why highlights shows like Sportscenter are dying relics of a bygone era.

I think a lot of people also forget how slanted ESPN was choosing which teams to highlight. UCONN wouldn't be half the brand it became without the constant exposure from ESPN just down the street. And not just college. How many times did the Lakers or Celtics game get highlighted when other games were much better. Don't get me wrong, I watched SportsCenter just like everyone else, but I'm not sad it's no longer relevant.

Yeah, I remembered watching it on sundays after Iowa state wins hoping to get highlights and they rarely had them.

And even now, I mostly follow sports/leagues that aren’t really going to get highlights on sportscenter, so why would I watch it?

Reminds me of some of the people that got into poker after watching the WSOP and didn’t realize how many hours of play it took to have a show with all those high stakes hands. All the hands of people checking, folding, and stealing blinds are an important part of the game that just doesn’t make the broadcast.

It’s the same on radio. You listen to Dan Patrick and he will talk about Aaron Rodgers at the Jets. Then Colin Cowherd will talk about that he doesn’t mind Aaron is taking mind altering drugs. Then Doug Gottlieb will talk about who the Jets had to give up.
That’s the first half of their shows. The last half is about Lebron and his son.
It gets old.

I really don't consider UConn to be much of a brand vs. Duke, UNC etc. especially considering their tourney championships.

They would talk about all of the NY teams years ago whether they were good or bad because it was such a high volume of listeners/market so the Rodgers stuff is probably their 'we're back!' moment.
