Fun tid-bit. Some of the dew points registering in central/southern Iowa are flirting with the hottest on record. 82 is the record for Des Moines. 5 minute obs are placing DSM at 79. Seems like we're about 2-4° off in most locations pushing up into the upper 70s/80s.
Anytime you get dew points in the 80s, that's bonkers type of moisture.
I rode RAGBRAI yesterday and the route was easy but with the heat made it a lot harder. Today the route is really tough (4200+ ft of climb - 90 miles) and the heat is worse. This could be bad.12:30 reading at the local airport (NW IA):
Temp 90
DP 81
RH 75%
HX 109
DP has been 79-81 since 10 a.m.

Usually this time of year is where the highest are found with the corn sweat and peak of summer.

Unfortunately the clouds and showers are going to bust the super high temperatures/heat index potential we had for central and western Iowa.
They issued a flash flood watch for the twin cities last night for the potential of 3-5" of rain.Glad we are going to finally hopefully get some rain in the metro today into tomorrow
