I'm telling ya, you're gonna have to move....Weather gods are just messin' with me again today. Another mini pop-up storm swing and a miss. Got dark for a few minutes but that was it for my area. Nothing.

Care to share the story?Calling back to the March 31 hail storm in Ames - Does anyone know of or have worked with a good insurance lawyer in Central Iowa?
SE Metro here, we've missed all of the little pop-up storms lately, until today. 1" of rain in about 30 minutes.

Honestly not a ton to share. State Farm is low balling me by about 33% vs actual repair estimates I've received, saying that the additional costs aren't justified and not willing to budge. My contractor is going back and forth with them now and I'm just trying to begin the research process should I need to take further steps. Will probably contact the state insurance division next.Care to share the story?
Do you feel like your agent is doing much for you against corporate?Honestly not a ton to share. My agent has done literally nothing outside of open the claim. It took 6 weeks for corporate to get back to me with a "revised" settlement this last time after I submitted my contractor estimate.Do you feel like your agent is doing much for you against corporate?
Ouch. In 13 years with mine I've only had a claim for $4k and spend about $5k a year all in.My agent has done literally nothing outside of open the claim. It took 6 weeks for corporate to get back to me with a "revised" settlement this last time after I submitted my contractor estimate.
Oh I'm done as soon as this is all settled, I just don't want to let them know yet because I don't want to give them less reason to pay. We've been with them for 12 years with auto and had great experiences. 3 years on homeowners and this has been a nightmare.Ouch. So if they wouldn't have my back, I'd be pissed.

Curious. How old is your roof? You might be into a depreciation schedule depending on age.Honestly not a ton to share. 6 or 7 years, it was replaced prior to us buying the house. We have recoverable depreciation so I don't *think* that is a factor, but this is admittedly my first homeowners claim so I'm not 100% sure.Curious. How old is your roof? You might be into a depreciation schedule depending on age.
I'm not a State Farm agent but pretty much every other company has gone to some sort of restriction there.
Sorry about your agent. People like that make the rest of us look bad and we hate it as much as you do.
You're good from a depreciation schedule standpoint then. The earliest those kick in is at 10 years.6 or 7 years, it was replaced prior to us buying the house. I knew I was in for a battle when they original adjuster only wanted to replace 1 slope of the garage and leave the remainder of the roof.
My roof is actually pretty borderline of if it's bad enough but they have agreed to replace the whole thing after I threw the line of sight law at them, albeit at an absurdly reduced value. They are denying other stuff that is way more obvious like fascia and bickering over stupid stuff like disposal costs and whether or not the contractor can charge for using pump jacks. You're good from a depreciation schedule standpoint then. If you continue to run into road blocks, you can request an independent engineer's inspection. They'll bring in a company that will rebuild the weather from that period and do an extensive inspection of the roof. I've seen those go both ways but you'll have a definitive answer. Hail can be weird in that sometimes you'll have several neighbors with extensive damage while you don't have any.
I would request an adjuster supervisor to review and if that fails, it might be worth legal counsel. It's a pain but that might be you best bet to get them to pay reasonable expenses. My roof is actually pretty borderline of if it's bad enough but they have agreed to replace the whole thing after I threw the line of sight law at them, albeit at a stupid reduced value. While a higher deductible obviously isn't ideal, I can live with it, if it means I'm actually covered when I need it. We stayed with SF because we were under the impression that while not the cheapest option, they were easy to deal with. I've visited with probably close to a dozen folks now that have had experiences similar to ours with SF on homeowners claims in the past, so it seems to be fairly common with them.I would request an adjuster supervisor to review and if that fails, it might be worth legal counsel. State Farm has been a pain with auto accident settlements lately too. They're really feeling the pinch, like everybody else, but because of their agent channel they can't throttle new business and renewals like everybody else is. The next 5 years is going to be pretty ugly for all of us. Get used to paying more for higher deductibles that don't cover the way they used to.
No where near the metro unfortunatelyIt's raining!
