Right now if a football player placed 15 $5 bets on NBA they wouldn't receive any suspension whatsoever.

In college? I believe you are wrong. Like I said if you don't meet the base rules (expectations) of the company you are working for you get let go, such is life. Change jobs or work to change the rules.

For all the benefits these athletes receive free college, housing, specialized dining, preNIL stipend, swag and now NIL money. play by the rules or take the loss buddy.

I'd like to drive 90 on wide open interstate highways but don't because I don't want suffer the consequences. (the fine and possible loss of license.)

To be completely honest, I am having a hard time drumming up too much excitement in my bones about this, either way.

It's a huge bummer that Dekkers threw away his career to bet on $10 on games where he probably wasn't even winning at a ridiculous clip. It's pretty wild that his parents seemingly encouraged him, or at the very least helped him get the account setup and access it while he was playing. It's just a series of really bad decisions from people that are a special combination of ignorant, arrogant, and/or delusional.

That being said, I don't think any of us were thrilled to watch another season of ISU football with Dekkers at the helm. He was a major part of the last-place Big 12 finish last season. Also, I am not personally sold on CMC. Whether you agree with me or not, you can't deny that it seem like we're staring down the barrel of back-to-back last-place Big 12 finishes in years seven and eight of Campbell's tenure unless a lot of guys really step up.

I guess I just hoped we'd be in a better spot right now. If you had told me after the Fiesta Bowl win that in just two years, ISU would likely be heading towards back-to-back seasons under five wins after a disappointing end to Purdy and Hall's careers (despite them both looking great and getting opportunities in the NFL) in the midst of a major scandal involving the starting QB, I would not be surprised because it's Iowa State, but I would certainly be devastated.
Very well said Voice of Reason.

Congrats on the win I guess? Your idiot buddy Deckers is still gone for for being a dumb ass. If you can't follow the rules you still can lose your job.

Calm down. Yes, if you bet on your own team you should be gone. If you placed a few bets on NBA or Golf then who cares.

There's room for nuance in this argument. Betting on games you are a part of is stupid and illegal and probably should warrant some law enforcement response. But the idea that the DCI is investigating some of these kids just for setting up and using gambling accounts through their parents is kind of comical. What's the harm? Who is the victim? It's just a silly use of law enforcement resources. If the NCAA wants to get involved, whatever. But the DCI being involved in anything that isn't viewed as having the potential for fixing is just wasteful.

Pretty similar to underage drinking, IMO. Both are fine in moderation for adults beyond a certain age. Both can lead to destructive addictions. Both have legal ramifications for underage use. Due to the technological nature of the issue, it's easier to track gambling. The NCAA and college sports are the victim because it carries the potential to ruin the competitive integrity of the game. The professional books also have reason to be tough on this: they rely on sports not being crooked because people are not going to bet as much if they believe the game is rigged. The gambler can be a victim if they develop an addiction that has significant consequences for their own lives (like Hunter is going to experience).

Ok, so now imagine the Department of Criminal Investigations launching a probe into someone drinking underage several months after the fact. This is the DCI we are talking about. Not Ames PD. The same division that's doing drug and prostitution busts and investigating major homicides.

Again, if you have reason to believe someone is fixing games, then have at it. But looking into setting up and using an account under their parents' names-- surely they have something better to do?
