Everyone should read the 49ers qb story sitting out on espn right now. We all think for obvious reasons purdy will be their guy but there’s a lot more obtuse language from 49ers brass then we think.
I've been listening to 49ers stuff all summer. Purdy is 100% the starter.

I like what you’re saying then they are ginning up a trade market for Trey Lance or they wouldn’t be talking this way
Are you talking about this article? Nothing in it is that bad. Are they hedging their bets a little? Sure. I would too. He's got 8 starts and is coming off of a season ending injury to his throwing elbow. They'd be dumb not too. They are still for the most part backing him, and the article is mostly positive.

Brock is always going to be an easy target for second guessers because his physical talents don't wow you, but the fact remains he was undefeated last year except for the game in which he was injured. Something crazy would have to happen for him to not be the game 1 starter. If he or the team struggle early in the season, that may open the door for for a qb controversy but hopefully he plays well again this year.

I'm pretty sure Brock is very, very well liked inside that locker room with the Niners. That alone, I think he has a huge leg up on being Day 1 starter.

Throw in the entire "any QB can work in Shannahan's system" aspect, the fact that he's Mr. Irrelevant, and a fairly humble personality, and he's doing everything "wrong" to be a successful starting QB as a rookie

He has also earned Shannahan's trust. That gives him a significant advantage also.

On Tuesday, 49ers flagship station AM680-KNBR San Francisco's morning Murph & Mac show had Brock Purdy for about a 19 minute interview. I initially missed it, but they replayed a couple bits this morning. Here is a corresponding article with the audio embedded within to listen.

Thanks for the link. Definitely worth the listen for me (9ers fan)!

I try to post stuff from KNBR about Purdy when I find it, but am not able to listen every weekday morning like I used to when I had an office job. So I'm sure I've missed a lot over the last year or so. Usually if it's a big interview, they tend to talk about it for a couple days and I'll hear about it - those guys just love Brock.

Following the 49ers subreddit, their fans cant stand Cohn. Seems like most reporters have been mostly positive on Purdy's performance, especially considering he's going exclusively against the 49ers 1st team defense which is one of the best in the NFL
Lombardi with the Athletic- he's the 49ers writer, puts out good content on Purdy

Lance is probably out of opportunities in SF. There seems to be some media buzz about Sam Darnold, so seems like he would be more of one to keep an eye on. Regardless, Brock does have 2 former 1st rounders breathing down his neck. I hope he can hang on to the job.

Article on 49ers practice from August 7th. Purdy is the first thing mentioned, but also updates on the other QB candidates (since Purdy is not expected to play against the Raiders this weekend for the first exhibition game).

49ers beat reporter for NBC Sports Bay Area, Matt Maiocco, discusses QBs.

He comes off as a know it all little prick.

I quickly tired of his shtick and won't watch or read any of the garbage content he puts out. Several other writers do a much better job.
Who are the other ones other than Maiocco? That pod is fantastic and he seems really fair.
