Here's the thing, this is all electronic. If another state does a crackdown in two years, even if you stopped gambling now that this has happened in Iowa, those records will still be available and you'll be suspended.

I'm curious how this goes because I can see it going a few ways. One is that none of the other states go anywhere near this. Another is that given how much betting on their own team was found in Iowa, do the governments of the various other legal betting states order an audit of the gambling in their state. A third is given the fact that it's the casino's and gambling industry that's in jeopardy of losing a **** ton of money if these governments pull back on gambling do they do a full audit of the gambling in each state themselves?
I would about guarantee that the DCI in states like Alabama, Georgia, Ohio, Michigan, Florida, etc don't go anywhere near an investigation like this.

I'm thinking, this hurts our chances to win many games this year, which means the staff is going to be uneasy about their job security. Will we lose coaches, or grad assistants, who look for a place without this cloud hanging over it? I mean, this may be a lot bigger problem over the next few years than just not having 5 starters for 2023. These kids who placed bets have put our entire program in a hole, I think.

Why would you? So glad Iowa did. So dumb

Well, four of the five will never play NCAA ball again. If Remsberg hadn’t tampered he might have just seen a suspension. They are officially $&#@($#&! stupid individuals.

Thinking of this I asked my step son about college students and gambling. His response confirmed my thoughts. (A) the state of Iowa has made gambling a part of the normal culture. They advertise it daily, they’ve made it easier to gamble online, and they have “Normalized“ it. (B) Iowa State and Iowa are both culpable as they allow the state to advertise gambling associated with the university name and athletics.

I tend to agree about ISU having a strong culture. And Campbell is a solid leader and standup person.

But there is definitely a problem when 4 upper class leaders bet on Iowa State contests.

I was disappointed in Jamie's interview on 365Sports yesterday. When he was asked about gambling issue, he minimized player accountability. He basically blamed the apps for having notifications that encouraged kids to bet. That comment was based on his interviews with the accused players. He also said that ISU need to refocus their compliance training.

The only way I can minimize, is gambling similar to smoking marijuana back in the day? Even though it was illegal AND there was potential to be tested- players still smoked and risked a lengthy suspension.
You kinda made JP's point right there - those apps ARE like drugs - those dings, those notifications, those likes - we're all hitting this dopamine drug off our phones - you get a little high from it - you get addicted to it - we're all part of this weird experiment now - all these apps are the same - DING, you want a little rush? here's a like DING, wanna bet on a game this weekend? DING, your favorite politician to hate just said something stupid, wanna respond? Our brains never register that at the end of the day we've looked at our phones like a thousand times - stuff is a SCARY drug

Seems to me there's a HUGE difference between how Iowa and ISU handled this. Why did most of the Iowa players involved transfer out? Probably because KF told them that they were done playing there, so they best leave.

Dekkers situation ended up being worse than any of us thought it was.... and now all these guys too were WAY worse than we imagined. It says a TON about how awful this team has been in the margins and in the details. It really pisses me off honestly. CMC is the man at the top, and he holds some responsibility.... I'm sorry. And Iowa didn't have anyone nearly of any consequence like we did.... that's not just coincidence IMO.

Listening to CMC yesterday about Special Teams really ticked me off too. He was talking about how they needed to do a better job of teaching punt returners to catch punts instead of allowing them to bounce and roll 15 yds, etc, etc. Oh really Matt!! You don't say! That's s**t that is taught to 5th graders playing football. Yet our guys did it all year long... and now you're thinking maybe you should have taught them better?? What a joke.

It turns out... IMO.... there's a LOT of reasons behind all the ineptness of these teams over the years. And it starts with poor coaching and lack of discipline. You just don't see the kind of crap us poor ISU fans see every year happen on other teams. Two punt returners colliding while trying to catch a punt versus Iowa. Our QB being sacked and while being tossed to the ground just throws the ball up in the air.... and it ends up being a pick six.

Sorry... but it just got really old folks. Maybe now we've gotten rid of the boneheads on the team and we'll play a lot cleaner? We shall see? Same head coach though.... so I'm expecting horrible Special Teams plays that cost us several games... along with stupid mistakes being constantly made over and over again. Hopefully we can overcome them?

Assuming those charged either transfer to lower tier teams where they will be eligible are kicked off the team with cause or decide to move on and get out of football….does this free up the scholarship now since school and the season has not started?

It is the same way in Indiana. Lots of advertising and lots of people doing it.
