Dang, thought it was uncomfy here in Mpls metro but checked your Ames weather and the dew point is sitting at 75 degrees. Woof. I thought the 70 degrees here was bad, although it is forecast to rise to 74. Since no posts here today I'm going to have to assume you peeps all heat stroked out.

This morning was bearable, even nice. I finished mowing around 1130 and it was still pleasant in the shade. By 6pm it's swamp. Just muggy and awful. I hate this type of weather.
This morning was lovely. Wanted to go fly but the increasing winds along with them not being aligned with the runway cancelled that. This afternoon was getting to be brutal out at Palo Days with the kids.

1988 was very hot and dry. Some of the poorest crops I have ever had.
This graphic makes no sense, Des Moines had a 100 degree day as recently as 2021 but everywhere to our south last recorded it in 2013?

You are correct. It's either incomplete or misguiding because just last year on July 6th Lamoni hit 100. And I'm sure others in that area did as well.
My son plays golf at CR Wash. Coach called yesterday that the golf meet on Wed is moved to Monday. Email a few hours later, golf canceled for today. Tee time was at 3pm.
Did the official reporting point record those temperatures AND be verified? I can record 108 at my house but if the Cedar Rapids airport which is the official reporting point for the area only records 99 that is what goes down.
Linn-Mar is not allow any outdoor practices from 7AM-7PM today, I am assuming that will get implemented most of the week
Dew point in Kansas City yesterday was 83, pushed the heat index to 118. I don't think swampy is a strong enough word for this one.
Is The Outhouse still outside Lawrence? Always high dew point in there.
Moved my afternoon run to the morning for obvious reasons, the temp was bearable but I think I sweated out approximately seven gallons of fluid.
