Really dislike that quote from Campbell. Finding positives is perfectly fine, but trying to make things sound okay after that last quarter of football is weak. He doesn't seem to have that killer instinct that most football coaches do. It's odd.

He's said a million times that it isn't about wins and losses. He definitely doesn't have a killer instinct.

He quit in this game a few years ago by benching Purdy late in the 3rd qtr and putting Dekkers in when the game wasn't out of hand yet. And he quit again today too, no matter what he says. He wasn't trying to win the game by going on an 8 min drive as slow as molasses. It was exactly what KF wanted. He got absolutely schooled again in this game.

He was all smiles on the sideline during, after the drive, and after the game. This fan base should be embarrassed by him today.

We've sucked ass every game versus Iowa in my tenure, but this game was the least ass we sucked.
But we still sucked ass, Matt. We had far too many mental errors today, coached & players. Youth is no excuse. KU's backup last year came off the bench & the offense barely skipped a beat - so don't give me the 'loss 4 veterans/upperclassmen to gambling' line either.
I wish I could agree. Iowa completely dominated the game.

Their offense isn’t great, so they went ultra-conservative once they got ahead by 2+ scores, but I’m not entirely convinced they couldn’t have moved the ball more if they had to be aggressive. Our defense also looked the worst it has in the CyHawk game since 2017 (obviously not blaming them, they’ve just been lights-out for the past four years, but really weren’t today).

The offense was non-existent until Iowa went prevent. Even when given the chance to nab some easy yards, ISU torched the clock that ultimately shrunk their margin of error to zero and even that was just the cherry on top of a TERRIBLE coaching performance.

In a game where the special teams had a field goal blocked and multiple negative yard punt returns, it was still probably the second-best special teams performance of the Campbell era (behind last year).

The Iowa-Iowa State game isn’t important because it’s a rivalry, it’s important because it’s a yardstick for Iowa State to measure program health against the team that arguably nearest meets its current environment, a very public yardstick that is seen by in-state recruits. I don’t think anyone that watched the game today would say that Iowa didn’t widen the current gap between the programs in the past twelve months.

On top of that, there’s not really a light at the end of the tunnel. I don’t see anything that Campbell and company are doing right now that’s going to raise our ceiling in the foreseeable future. I just am not sure how long you should let Campbell risk widening the gap even further before trying something new.

Agree. He was so proud of that drive... when deep inside KF was laughing hysterically. It was EXACTLY how KF wanted that drive to go... minus the TD at the end... KF figured we'd just get a FG.

KF knew his team couldn't sustain any kind of drive to kill the clock... so why not let ISU just dink and dunk it down the field and run the clock out.... and CMC happily obliged. So out classed on the x's and o's of football. Matt is a better person than KF obviously, but that doesn't count for much when you're paid to win football games.

Becht has no arm strength. Receivers have no hands. MC replaced an experienced OC with an inexperienced OC and kept the same playbook, play calls, and game plan. 8 years of poor offense, horrible special teams, OK recruiting, and great defense ( credit to Heacock). If Becht can't throw it deep, there will be 7 in the box all game, every game.

Positives : few penalties, defense, kick coverage,
Negatives: receiving. throwing deep ball, play calling, 2 minute offense, punt returns

So what's the answer then? Kohl is no where near ready. We would ruin him.

Well, at least we have the kind of program where multiple starters who are team leaders don't get their eligibility wiped out forever.
